Many of our indoor plants originate from humid jungle environments so moisture in the air is vital to keep your plants lush and healthy. Generally, houseplants prefer 40-60% humidity, much higher than most of our homes—especially during the winter when fireplaces and furnaces dry the air out. Below is a picture of Lulu’s humid corner in her home.

In general, the thinner and more papery the leaves are, the greater the likelihood of it needing higher humidity. And the opposite is also true, the thicker the leaf the more dryness it will take, ie. Succulents.

Signs of low humidity in plants:

– Leaves develop brown edges
– Plants begin to wilt
– Leaves begin to yellow
– Foliage becomes crisp

Three ways to increase humidity:

-Pebble tray, place plant on tray of small rocks and cover the rocks with water. Place plants on top.
-Place plants in a high humidity location in your home, ie. Bathroom or kitchen.
-BUY A HUMIDIFIER! Your plants and your skin will thank you. The one in the picture was $28 from Amazon. It is on a timer, 12 hours on low then 12 hours off and needs to be filled every 4-5 days.
