Proper planning and preparation always pays off when doing anything, especially a field shoot where your client might be shutting down a factory or office for your production. Here's a few shots from a recent day we spent prepping for an off-site product shoot, testing the lighting and overall setup. Another successful mixer of Iowa creatives, last night! A lot of filmmakers turned out this month, so we showed 3 different trailers for projects made right here in Iowa, with all-Iowa crews. But we also hosted photographers, sound engineers and a few recent University of Iowa film grads. All creative people are welcome!

Thanks to for kicking off the discussion portion, with his trailer for The Valley of the Devil, and for showing her trailer for The Gates.

Grateful to those who came out, and for anyone who missed it, we'll see you at the next meeting on March 27th! (Last Thursday of every month!)

Many people wonder about the lighting setup used to pull of a "simple" talking head shot. 💡💡🎥 🗣💡

It obviously varies depending on the situation/location, but for this video, we used:
💡 An Aputure 600d (with a 5' light dome) for the key light
💡 An Amaran 60x S (with lantern and skirt) acting as overhead/hair light
💡 A 2' Amaran Pixel Tube ('standing' on the cooler) adding some warm fill on the shadow side.

(All supervised by our studio mascot, Manny, of course. 👑)
