Picture Perfect

There are few things that can cement a memory as solidly as a picture can (some say smells are related to feelings; maybe in another article we can investigate how to package those up for a future memory). Today we're discussing visual memories and your wedding day is certainly a memory you want to keep close. Although professional photographers vary in price, skill and availability, here’s a general estimate of what you can expect:

Price: It seems like the world is teeming with amateur photographers with nice cameras nowadays, and you can conceivably find someone who will take pictures for a minimal price, even for free. However, this is probably not advisable. Decent photographers range anywhere from a couple hundred to a couple thousand dollars, depending on where you live and who you pick. A couple words for planning when picking a photographer:

-Photographers do not post prices on their website. You’ll have to contact them directly.

-Some quotes do not include the “sitting fee” —the fee for taking up the photographer’s time, and it can be surprisingly expensive.

-Some photographers offer touch-ups for any photos they take. If this is something that is important to you, make sure you find someone experienced in that field. If you don’t want altered photos, be sure to check and let your photographer know.

-Most photographers allow you to own the rights to your negatives. However, a few of them retain the rights and you are essentially buying the right to have a copy of the pictures. You don’t actually own them. If you want to have access to your pictures years down the road, BE SURE YOU OWN THE RIGHTS TO THE ORIGINALS.

Packages: Every photographer does something different. Some of them include engagement pictures, wedding day photos, reception photos, etc. while others only cover part of the time. Just make sure you know what you’re getting up front.

Something Borrowed has been helping photographers take perfect picture for nearly 25 years. To imagine yourself in the perfect picture visit https://www.ChurchHouseWedding.com and call Kristine at (801)698-2279.

How Long Should my Tablecloths Be?

Linens are a beautiful part of your reception and they are the part most closely examined by your guests. Here are a few things to consider as you decide what size of tablecloth to use.

The round tables at most Wasatch Front church houses are 60 inches across. The tablecloth lengths to consider for these tables are 120-inch which reach the floor, 96-inch which reach the seat of the chair and 70-inch. Seventy-inch cloths hang five inches below the tabletop and are available at Target, Bed Bath & Beyond and other department stores.

The floor-length cloths are pretty in pictures but are a nightmare for your guests. They make it hard to move chairs in and out. There is risk of a guest stepping on the cloth or having it catch on their clothing and unsettling your table. They restrict the guest from stretching legs out under the table. Floor length cloths are elegant in theory; they hide the table legs, they do look good in pictures. Most pictures of long tablecloths don't have chairs in the picture or if they do the chairs are carefully staged for the picture because you can't see the table cloth with chairs against the table. You will rarely see photos of floor-length cloths with people seated under them, it's just awkward. Something Borrowed has floor-length cloths in limited colors and we will gladly provide them to you if you wish. I share my 25 years of experience with you to help you make create best reception experience for your guests.

I recommend a chair-length 96- inch cloth. You will notice on our website we feature the 96-inch cloth on a smaller table so the cloth reaches the ground. There is no question, floor-length looks better in pictures and people primarily take pictures of the dining area for sales purposes. However, traditional pictures of your wedding don't include the dining area. If you choose to use our longer tablecloths, please put in a special request with your photographer to photograph the area before the reception or you won't end up with dining pictures in your memory book.

The 70-inch cloths are a good choice for a dinner prior to the reception. You will not want to use the same cloths for both. Seventy-inch cloths are inexpensive and if they get stained at dinner, no big deal.

Watch for upcoming posts where I will address colors and sizes of layered tablecloths and things to consider with centerpieces.

New Trends

New church houses are being constructed with the dignity of weddings in their design. They are beautifully finished and well planned for large groups. The addition a dim-able lighting lets you control the nuance of the evening. The old bias against “getting married on a basketball court” is gone. The varied backdrops available from Something Borrowed, combined with the individual setting at your local church, will create an evening for you and your guests that will be refreshing and different from anything you have ever experienced.
Generally, wedding services are becoming more professional. Decorators consider and control the entire atmosphere of the evening. Your local venue can be made to outshine almost any alternative.

Why do I Need a Professional Decorator?

Experienced decorators are professionals in the details that provide for a comfortable atmosphere. They help ensure there will be enough tables and chairs without crowding. They understand crowd control; from the warm welcome at the correct entry door to making sure they never have the feeling of going up the down staircase.
In addition to relieving you of stress and labor before the event, a decorator will become your best friend after the event. A professional decorator will bring in an experienced crew that can have your decorations removed in 30 minutes to an hour. This allows you to concentrate on other aspects of clearing the building. You will be tired. You will appreciate the service.

Whether the Weather

You may feel like you're taking a HUGE chance on the weather when you plan an outdoor wedding. You may be nervous about the heat, rain, cold and (ooohh..) the worst is wind.
Our best suggestion is to make sure that you have a backup - a tent or a venue that has both an indoor/outdoor location for you to work with to make sure you and your guests can be protected from the elements.
You really need to follow your heart. If you're going to stress too much over things you can't control (like the weather), then maybe an indoor venue would work best ... but if it means a lot to you to have an outdoor wedding, you will find a way to make it work. Make the best of whatever the day brings. Plan for the sunshine AND the rain, use lots of white lights and candles, and enjoy whatever comes.
Let Something Borrowed remove your stress and provide you with a reception that will be the envy of your friends. Something Borrowed has been pleasing brides for nearly 25 years.

Cambridge
"Duke of Cambridge" is a title which has been conferred upon members of the British royal family several times. It is named after the city of Cambridge in England where it was first used in 1660 as a designation for Charles Stuart, the eldest son of James, Duke of York (later James II).

The title was most recently bestowed upon Prince William who celebrates his wedding to Kate Middleton on 29 April. At that time the title of Cambridge was also conferred upon a wedding backdrop at Something Borrowed. Since that time, hundreds of couples have had the title informally bestowed upon them as their wedding pictures were recorded for all generations in front of the Cambridge collection. In 2020, Cambridge has been Utah's most coveted backdrop.
