'Nosferatu' is a horror movie. There is a relationship, between Ellen Hutter and the monstrous Count Orlok, but it is not one of love or romance. This is a movie about a deeply disturbing obsession, with Bill Skarsgard (who did such a stellar job of Pennywise in 'It') portraying the undead Count. Ellen is the young wife drawn into a deadly web, and the actress portraying her is Lily-Rose Depp, daughter of Johnny.

'Silverado' is a Western, and fulfills our desire to return the tradition of Westerns to State Theatre - but this one is very different. It's a modern telling, full of drama and humor, and out of the ordinary performances. A very young Kevin Costner plays a wild young man, and Kevin Kline is the solid main character of the team. Scott Glenn brings the team together and Danny Glover gives the story its heart. Lacking any romance for the era, this is a dustier view that shows the lawlessness and opportunity inherent in the early days of our country.

It's not for everyone, but it is a great way to spend a dark winter's day... watching a creepy, engaging and ultimately horrific movie about the greatest vampire of history. 'Nosferatu' is a movie about obsession and the darkness it creates in the world. Rated R, this will be a journey for the brave hearted and those who just really want an escape from a cold, winter day!!

Hoping to see a few of you Tom Hanks fans, or Rom-Com lovers, or Movie Maniacs, at the State Theatre on Thursday, Jan 23rd, for this rare screening of 'Joe Vs The Volcano'
It's a clever, solid movie with perfect performances throughout, including three different Meg Ryans, and brief but brilliant moments from some of Hollywoods best actors. And, its got Tom Hanks playing an average, everyday Joe.
The State Theatre will be showing 'Joe Vs The Volcano' on Thursday at 4p (matinee) and 7p.
NEXT WEEK we will give our Thursday, Jan 30th over to a modern Western tale - Silverado - also at 4p & 7p.

We still have ONE MORE NIGHT of 'Mufasa: The Lion King' at State Theatre - and it is Discount Tuesday!! At 7p everyone can get in for $5 a piece to see 'Mufasa' one last time on the BIG SCREEN!!
We have a lot more going on the rest of this week though. On Thursday we will be bringing Tom Hanks in for two showings of 'Joe Vs The Volcano', and on Friday, the Theatre becomes extra, extra creepy as Nosferatu rises from his coffin and terrorizes, well, everyone!! This is a very gothic, very artistic telling of the vampire story... Next week, we're doing another Community Classics Cinema with 'Silverado' on Jan 30th, and then we end the month with another one the kids have asked for - 'Dog Man'!

'Mufasa: The Lion King' is a movie for the whole family, with great music, tremendous action and popular characters!! Rated PG, the realism of the animation - it's called photorealistic animation - 'Mufasa' will be enjoyable for those adults who like nature and animal shows as well.

Tom Hanks is one of the greatest talents in cinema, and with 'Joe Vs The Volcano' he delivers a funny, thoughtful and bizarre romantic-comedy! This is one that the whole family can watch, with amazing performances from some of our least appreciated character actors - Abe Vigoda, Ozzie Davis, Lloyd Bridges, Robert Stack and Dan Hedaya - along with a triple shot of Meg Ryan.
'Joe Vs The Volcano' will be our Community Classic Cinema selection on January 23rd, with a matinee show at 4p (all tickets are $5) and the feature at 7p.
And, of course, we'll be selling popcorn (and popcorn balls) throughout!!

This weekend we are showing 'Mufasa'!! The latest musical features songs by the incredibly talented Lin-Manuel Miranda, and those who missed his musicianship in 'Moana 2' will want to see the magic he's created for this pre-quel to 'The Lion King'. This 'live-action' film is far beyond a cartoon, using photorealistic animation to make the animals look like their actual selves, but still using the voices of famous talents including Donald Glover, Beyonce and Mads Mikkelsen. There is a reason that people are enjoying this movie, and not just the kids!!

So, Kirby here, saying that one of the best written Romantic-Comedy films is coming to State Theatre!
This is Tom Hanks at the top of his goofy, good-guy game and Meg Ryan playing THREE potential women in his life. The allegorical story is about courage, self-awareness and living your best life rather than submitting to the collective, with some romance on the side. It is visually awesome which means even the fans need to come see it on the BIG SCREEN. Plus, we have popcorn!!
(And yes, I will have popcorn balls for sale!!)

TONIGHT!!
We are re-opening Monday Nights at the State Theatre for those who work all weekend long, or just cannot take a break from the 'fun' of weekends for a movie. You know who you are!!
State will be open for a regular admission show tonight, Jan 13th at 7p, with a seriously amazing feature film!! People (even those who didn't expect to or want to) are LOVING this movie!! 'Wicked' is only at State for tonight and tomorrow, so get down here while you can!!
And, even if you don't stay for the movie, drop off your food donations for Helping Ends Meet and get some popcorn, candy, a Slushee or other concessions to go!

Late Nite Horror returns to State Theatre on Friday, January 17th!!
We're inviting everyone who wants a scare - or to scare their friends - to come experience 'Annabelle', a vintage doll haunted by evil demons!! This horror film, from the same people who gave us 'The Conjuring', promises to freak and frighten everyone at State Theatre at 10p on Friday night.
Tickets are $5 for everyone - bring your friends, and your foes!!

There's been a lot of focus on the two stars of 'Wicked' but the cast is overall impressive and, according to those who've see the movie, consistently excellent! Jeff Goldblum plays the manipulative Wizard of Oz, and Michelle Yeoh is Madame Morrible, the regal, headmistress of S**z Academy. Jonathan Bailey plays the too, too charming Prince Fiyero, and a goat is the history professor Dr. Dillamond. There is a lot more to see in 'Wicked' than Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, and a lot more to enjoy in this spectacular and sensational film!!
