Today is the day! Carlea is traveling to Hershey to compete in the PA State Fair Queen Contest 👑. Along with 60 other fair queens from across the state, Carlea will participate in interviews, receptions, activities, and speeches. We’re proud of the representation and work Carlea does for our county, and we know she’ll excel in Hershey this weekend! Join us in wishing her luck! 👑

John Shearer was a big part of the Franklin County Fair. In 2015, our #1 Dairy Barn was dedicated to John for his great contributions to the Fair. Franklin County agriculture is forever thankful for his work through Penn State Ag Extension.

In 1960, John came to Franklin County, PA, serving as the Franklin County Agent and extension director. He retired in 1993.

Our fair queen, Carlea, had the privilege of visiting our State Capitol today for the inaugural Fair Queen Advocacy Day. She visited with PA State Rep. Rich Irvin and Senator Doug Mastriano. Carlea enjoyed a tour of the Capitol building including the Senate floor. She also learned some of the history behind the murals in the Senate.

What an opportunity for Carlea and other county fair queens to visit their legislators in the Capitol and advocate for our fairs and agriculture! Thank you to the PA State Fair Queen board and the Representatives and Senators for a wonderful day!

Last week, we had the honor of dedicating our Midway Stage to Sherrie and Jim Mellott. These two have been involved with the Franklin County Fair since the 1970s. They can always be counted on to lend a hand whether it’s early morning trash duty, scaring off the birds in the pavilion, or garnering more community support. They bring ideas to the fair and help implement many new things. Sherrie has also been instrumental in our Royalty Court program. She is an amazing and caring woman that the royalty court is blessed to have on their team. The royalty can always count on Jim and Sherrie to be there for them. They give great guidance and help ensure the girls are successful in all their endeavors. The Fair is blessed to have Jim and Sherrie on our team and to call them friends. We look forward to having them with us for many, many more years!

We all had a hootin' and hollerin' time at the rodeo Saturday night courtesy of Forrester Farm Equipment and Bullride Mania Rodeo Company! From the Little Buckaroo Rodeo to the professional bulls and barrels, the night was filled with fun for everyone.
