Piper’s Hut Concerts

The “Piper’s Hut” was a remodeled animal shed that existed next to a friend’s house in Colorado. One section of the shed was converted into guest quarters and the other was my friend’s music room and Uilleann piping haven. There was a sign above the door that proclaimed it “The Piper’s Hut”. At the same time and nearby was a folk music society that (perhaps still does) host bi-weekly music events in a small community center in Black Forest, CO. They would have an invited act do a set and maybe one or two locals would have a go and then the stage and chairs would be reorganized into an open bluegrass jam -- they also had the BEST brownies and coffee.

In an all too brief amount of time I leave Colorado to find other great local music and I volunteer to work at local folk music shows and Irish festivals. Eventually I settle in Champaign, IL.

I was exposed to great local Irish musicians and I was treated to seeing Paddy O’Brien’s band “Cul Rua” once and on another occasion Michael “Piper” Cooney, Ged Foley and another gentleman played here. But I wanted more!

I sought some advice from other successful regional small show concert promoters and tried my hand in January 2005. I mostly put on unplugged house concerts now. My community has now seen over 110 shows.
