Happy Film Friday!

I’ve been so excited to share this fall ALL FILM wedding post full of colorful flowers, emotional details like the brides mom’s handwriting on napkins, cotton candy plus a champagne Vespa, and even a pink ruffled veil to bring together all the magic!

The couple had an amazing team surrounding them including friends doing the most perfect flowers and hair and make up!

Espresso martinis with their dog’s sweet face as a topper, gluten free cannoli, champagne tower with a vintage inspired cake for all the vibes, and a lit dance floor with rainbow lights and flags created the most fun reception!

🤎☕️ Mocha Mouse is the color for 2025 and I’m here for the rich, warm, earthy, elegant tones. 🍂🍄‍🟫

This editorial came together in 2 days and the goal was just to play and get creative with friends! I had a vision I just couldn’t get out of my head and love how it all worked out 🥰🥹

We caught the last warm day of the year, had a for real bald eagle visit (no idea we had them in NC), and I couldn’t stop cracking up about how great the “cake” turned out bc it’s absolutely made of cardboard.

Excited for more styled shoots this off season to feed my artistic soul!

5 Getting Ready Tips From a Wedding Photographer:

✨ SAVE these for later ✨

1. Have all your flat lay details in a box or bag like invites, jewelry, shoes and anything else you want photographer and I’ll do that while you get hair and make up done then I’ll come back for finishing touches.

2. It’s great to have windows for natural light and I love mirrors so you can see yourself! Last weekend my grooms even brought their own tall mirror to the hotel, it was perfect!

3. Try on your wedding day outfits BEFORE wedding day including knowing what undergarments and exactly jewelry details you want! Don’t decide and don’t experiment on wedding day!

4. Know who you want to help you get ready and make sure they are dressed before you get dressed

5. Have back ups of undergarments, tape, shoes, and even a back up dress (this can also be your reception dress!) (I’ve seen a bride get overheated and cut her dress, I’ve seen a bride have red wine spilled on her dress by a guest, I’ve seen a dress get so heavy with mud she couldn’t dance but thankfully she had a reception dress!)

Grateful for our incredible couples who share such important moments with us, the families who welcome us with open arms, and our wedding vendor community turned forever friends. Grateful for the ability to capture once in a lifetime stories with my husband at my side. We are in it for the love and for the people and the art just happens. Drew and I are grateful for this amazing life we get to adventure through together! We are SO thankful for you and can’t wait for all the future celebrations we get to document!

What is a documentary wedding photographer?

✨To me, as someone who studied and worked in journalism, it’s someone who knows when to take a step back and let a moment happen.✨

On wedding day there are of course times where I guide with poses and prompts, I’ll organize family photos, I will absolutely tell you what to do with your hands 🙌🏽, and you’ll never feel like I left you hanging not know what’s next.

But I also know when to let a candid moment happen and am ready to capture that once in a lifetime memory!

I’ve been so excited to share these film scans!

Yep - every single frame here is film!

From the details to the emotion to the colors, to their wedding fits, the day was not only perfect but so much fun!

My favorite part of the day was a tie between their emotional private vows and golden hour photos and sunset and fall trees backdrop! Oh and of course the dance floor! Ok, I just loved it all!!

Candid joy!

These beautiful, unposed, and raw documentary moments have my heart!

As much as in your friend, your hype woman, and iykyk your portable DJ, I also love taking a quiet step back and letting this emotional scenes play out.

Any good journalist knows when to be a fly on the wall allow life to happen.

I approach weddings with a combo mentality. You’ll never wonder what to do with your hands or feel awkward or not know what’s next. I got you! And part of that trust is for you to be present and soak up the happiness, the tears, the unexpected, all the goodness and love celebrations bring!

In continuing with the tradition of Film Friday here are some favorites with the most joyful duo with the perfect sunset!

My favorite memory from their wedding was before the ceremony as we waited for guests to arrive, we had a dance party in their getting ready house! Eveyone of all ages sang, cheersed, laughed, danced. It was a first for me and really shows how Sami and Vince bring people together in the most beautiful ways.

Beach wedding tips ⬇️

✨save these for later ✨

1. Pick an off season for less crowds and less heat!
2. Be prepared for weather to turn quickly and be mindful of hurricane season
3. Have a wind plan for decor, arches, and hair
4. Embrace the wind in photos!
5. Know when sunset is and ask your photographer what time golden hour photos can take place!

This amazing couple rented a giant beach house in the OBX and had their closest friends and family stay all week together! They had a beautiful beach ceremony followed by dinner and music at the house. It was the perfect intimate wedding full of intentional moments, kids running around, stories being told over dinner, dogs being adorable, and just an overall comfort that happens at home surrounded by those you love the most.

I love how both the digital and the film turned out!!

2. Lean into nontraditional - whether it’s unique wedding outfits your change into, bold colors, a maximalist floral or art installation, an out of this world theme, fruit as center pieces, food trucks, or a totally not done before wedding timeline. I encourage and empower you to do what’s personal and the best fit for you two!

3. Sustainability - let’s reuse or donate those flowers, buy and sell decor on Facebook marketplace, locally sourced food, and think about how we can minimize plastic waste, fast fashion, and our carbon footprint!

They’re engaged!!!!

Toby worked SO hard to making this happen perfectly!

He set up a scholarship group reunion and even had the program director email the date, time, and location! So they came back to Chapel Hill and dressed up for “the event” and met me, “the event photographer” to take them to the spot Toby had location scouted the day before.

Everything was perfect!

Brooke also always said she wanted red roses when she got engaged and to keep them a surprise, Toby sent flowers to my house and I brought them out at the end!

I also took iPhone footage, meta glass video, and Polaroids! We had the whole day covered!

Brooke is the most deserving entrepreneur and CEO of and I can’t wait to see what they continue to do as a power couple!

I love that we all have in common being Tar Heels, former D1 athletes, and being business owners!

Truly grateful for my amazing couples who go above and beyond!!

My number 1 tip for fall and winter weddings ⬇️

✨Make sure you know when sunset is✨

I love helping create your photo timeline! Whether you prefer a first look or not, we can make it work as long as we know how much light we have.

Daylight Savings Time (November 3!) sneaks up on us to please be aware if the sun sets at 5pm on your wedding day. If it does, that’s ok! We can work around it and talk about priorities and how we can fit it all in for the perfect light!

I personally LOVE winter light so let’s make your amazing wedding day schedule happen together!
