OUR LATKES FOR HANUKKAH featured in
WESTCHESTER MAGAZINE
I have been making potato latkes for over 40 years at home and at Susan Lawrence - especially for Hanukkah. Of course there are infinite variations; the lacy, flat crunchy type, soft-centered crisp exterior pancakes, sweet potato latkes, root vegetable latkes - it’s truly endless. I guess I love them all - but if I had to choose, it would the slightly thicker, more substantial latke with a luscious creamy center, a crisp golden exterior and a hint of onion. I can’t even begin to count how many potato pancakes I have made at Susan Lawrence over the years - since just for Hanukkah, orders are in the thousands.

Westchester Magazine has featured some Latke making tips from me in their current issue which I hope you will find helpful if you are making them yourself. Serve hot and crispy with applesauce, or top with a dollop of sour cream, smoked salmon, or as I do - with an indulgent heap of caviar....

A Food Tasting & Book Signing at Susan Lawrence

Come meet my friend Margot Greenbaum Mustich who has just published a wonderful new book: “When Grandmas Cook: In the Kitchen with Grandmas, Nonnas, and Abuelas.” Margot is an accomplished cook who has worked in the famous Union Square Café kitchen, taught cooking classes and writes for Food52 - but she is also a grandmother who knows the very important connection of how food traditions are passed from one generation to the next. In Margot’s beautifully illustrated book, children are invited into kitchens around the world to celebrate the food - and love - kids and grandmas share.

This very special book signing and food tasting event will be held at Susan Lawrence in Chappaqua on December 7 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. I will be there serving samples of my own Mom’s famous Chopped Liver and Margot will be bringing three of her family heirloom foods for people to taste: Grandma Kate’s Pizzelles, Grandma Annette’s Pound Cake, and Aunt Hetty’s Poppy Seed Cookies.

I know you will enjoy tasting all the food, meeting Margot and celebrating her new beautifully illustrated book which introduces little ones to a different grandma and her grandchildren as they cook a traditional dish together.
