Anyone remember when Fourth Wing blasted 💥 its way onto our FYPs with the cool sprayed edges? It seems like every book now is coming out with gorgeous edge art but some of them are so expensive or limited edition and they’re hard to get your hands on. Well, what IF you could make your own special editions of your favorite books that you already have at home 🤔

We looked at A LOT of venues both in Charleston and elsewhere. Valley Park Conference Center won out 🏆 and we can’t wait to transform this beautiful space into the Court of Dreams and Stars 🥰

Hey 👋🏼 book besties! I’m Caitlin, the other half of BTPE! Also a 90s baby, bourbon enthusiast, Swiftie/Metal Head 🤘🏼 and plant parent 🪴

I’ve been a book dragon basically since birth. I love a good Dark Romance ⛓️‍💥🌹 but Romantasy is my jam too. If I’m not devouring s**t, I enjoy a good mystery or thriller novel.

When Im not decorating cakes at my real job, I’m being a socially awkward introvert at home with my social butterfly husband and the best dog ever. Occasionally I’ll come out of my lair, hiss at the sun and go hang out with friends.

Hey 👋🏼 book besties! We have lots of new faces here so we’d like to say hi and introduce ourselves!

I’m Gina, half of the mind behind BTPE, 90s baby, mom of three and Romantasy 🌹🗡️ obsessed!

While Romantasy is my fav, I like to switch it up with a good historical or contemporary romance from time to time.

If I’m not baking cakes at my big girl job, running my kids around or rushing off from one place to another, I like to watch Friends or Gilmore Girls for the millionth time & spend time with my hubby and family.

We all like stories, right? That’s kind of why we’re here. How about origin stories? Well settle in and get comfy because today we’re sharing the origin story of BTPE, or as I like to call it “How Two Book Loving Feral Raccoons Started A Bookish Business” (Caitlin’s POV)

Last December we were at the bakery, knee deep in Christmas prep, sucking down copious amounts of iced coffee and talking about books when one of our book club members texted us about a fae ball in another state. We couldn’t make the trek to go and we were so mad about it lol. So Gina, in all her unhinged glory, says “We should just throw one ourselves.”

Now, I totally thought she was joking but regardless, we started spit balling ideas and it spiraled out of control until we had this grandiose vision for our fae ball. I let the excitement die down and later that week I asked her “Are you serious?”. She looked at me with a feral gleam in her eye and said “Yes! We’re throwing a fae ball!”

Post Christmas, we dove head first into planning the ball. It was then we thought it might be a smart idea to start an entirely new business to keep things separate from the bakery. Thus BTPE was born! Not only did we want BTPE to be about bookish events, but we wanted to find our people and give them a place to meet new book besties. The book themed days we had at the bakery were so much fun because of the people we met and gushed about our favorite series’s with so we wanted to build that community through BTPE.

The idea for the Books and Booze Book Fair came about after I saw a TikTok about a book fair at a brewery. But the ball was taking up all our brain capacity and I didn’t know if we could pull it off. I’m the worrier, the anxious little raccoon in this duo but Gina, once again, said “Let’s do it!”

Next thing I know, it’s June 9th and we’re standing on the top floor of Hale Street Center surrounded by 500 new book besties thinking “Holy s**t, we did it!”. We’re still not over how amazing the book fair was!

Now we’re full steam ahead on the fae ball, emailing big name authors hoping & praying they’ll come to little Ol Charleston, thinking about next year’s book fair and how else we can create bookish tourism/ fun events. BTPE is the child of two feral, unhinged little raccoons who love to read and we hope our events bring joy to book lovers everywhere!

We made the news 🎉📚 and in our excitement we may or may not have let the fae out of the bag 😉 and announced the date for our Fae 🧚 Ball! March 29th 2025 🤩 we are bringing the magic of the Romantasy world to West Virginia!!!

Venue, theme, tickets, etc will all be announced over the next couple of months as we get our super official website built!

🥳📚 The Inaugural Books and Booze Adult Book Fair was an absolute SUCCESS 🤩

Honestly we are still processing the events of today. It was, without a doubt, a surreal experience that we won’t forget anytime soon. The overwhelming success of our first event has us excited about the future of bookish events here in Charleston and beyond!

Of course, we could not have pulled this off without the help of Hale Street Center and their amazing staff, an awesome team of volunteers and our rockstar line up of vendors Taylor Books Plot Twist Books Inner Geek - Huntington Dear Cupid The Hummingbird Hat Bar Collective Hippie's Daughter ECHO-LIT Iris & Daffodil Mountainmamacrochet The Merchants Daughter Shore Comfort LLC Roxel Roots Rainbow Ridge Clay Wild Wick Candle Co. Dark Delights Bootique Sugar Pie Bakery WV Rebecca’s Bakehouse Creations Hill & Holler Herbal Co.. Without all of them, this dream wouldn’t have come true today 🖤💜

Thank you to all of our attendees! We know the line wasn’t ideal but your safety and comfort was so important to us. Everyone was so kind & excited to be there and without all of you this definitely wouldn’t have been possible either! We loved seeing everyone in their bookish shirts and it was an absolute pleasure to talk with people who share our passions. You have made our hearts so unbelievably full 🫶🏻
