THE GODDESS PROJECT- PART II 👑

FIRE 🔥☄️• Tend to your inner flame—bright enough to inspire, but never so fierce that it engulfs who we are

Jacqui’s story- Im a 38-year-old Chicago native who found my way to Charleston to attend The Citadel. Being accepted into such a predominantly male institution was a spark of pride for me, and as one of the few women there, I fueled the way for future female cadets. With few female role models around, my journey wasn’t without challenges, and as a Marine Corps contract cadet whose military dreams were extinguished by injury, I saw many opportunities for women and mentorship go up in smoke.

I’ve made it my mission to fan the flames of support for female cadets at The Citadel, ensuring they receive the guidance I didn’t. I frequently return to campus, rekindling connections with women cadets to mentor and uplift them.
After graduation, I forged my own path in law enforcement, and I’m now a Lieutenant with the Community Engagement Unit at the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, bringing 16 years of experience to the field.

Throughout my career, I’ve been a steady flame, mentoring women in the field, showing them how essential they are to law enforcement. The more women we have in this profession, the brighter we burn. Women bring unique strengths to the table, helping to defuse situations with less violence and more compassion, leading to better outcomes.
Whether it’s at recruiting events, during lectures, or on college campuses, I share my experiences to inspire more women to step into this field. My message is clear: keep your fire, hold onto your passion, and never let anyone dim your light—our profession is brighter and stronger with you in it.

On a personal note, I’m a mother to four boys—two biological and two bonus sons. I strive to show women that you can ignite your passion for a fulfilling career, be a present parent, and achieve your goals. It’s not always easy, but like tending to a fire, with patience and effort, it’s absolutely worth it.

Today I am thirty seven. Thirty seven years on the beautiful place we call earth. This year, I am a sunflower 🌻.

Sunflowers stand tall, even through the storms, they always finds the light in the darkest of times. Their vibrant energy helps me face each day with positivity, strength, and an open heart.

Just like the sunflower’s roots stretch deep into the earth, I feel grounded in my purpose, growing through challenges and blooming with authenticity. This year, I choose to embody that same grace and boldness, letting my light shine unapologetically. Its bold, bright petals remind me to embrace joy and radiate warmth to those around me.

My roots:

Sometimes I fall, but I always find my way back to my roots. It’s a reminder that growth doesn’t always happen in a straight line—sometimes, I need to be buried, surrounded by darkness, to truly take root and rise. Every time I fall, I plant myself deeper into the foundation of who I am, drawing strength from within to push upward again. It’s through these moments of falling that I find the resilience to rise stronger, always reaching for the light.
In the moments of darkness, I trust that beneath the surface, something powerful is taking shape. Each fall teaches me to be patient with myself, knowing that my roots are always there, ready to help me rise again—taller, stronger, and more vibrant.

Happy birthday to me 🌻🌱

Jax’s Story: July 2023 they noticed some “bruising” on him. The bruises seemed darker than usual and when asked, Jax said he must have got them playing on the playground at school with his friends, so we chalked it up to that. We know he has no fear, especially while driving his power wheels and four wheelers all around the yard making tracks.
A few weeks later, we received a call from the school guidance counselor regarding his bruising. We immediately made a same-day appointment with his pediatrician.
Thinking that it could be an iron deficiency, based on my personal experience with anemia, we were absolutely crushed when we were instructed to go immediately to the emergency room that day to have his blood drawn and to be told that all the signs looked like leukemia initially and somehow Jax beat the odds… with his 2-year-old brother being a sibling match.
And so our long journey with Jax began, leading to the diagnosis of Severe Aplastic Anemia. Severe Aplastic Anemia is a rare condition in which the body stops producing enough new blood cells.
Jax has to get weekly infusions to keep his platelets and blood at a safe level, which are becoming more frequent as his condition worsens. He most recently had a port surgically installed to let the doctors work easier and more efficiently and prepare him for a bone marrow transplant, and is scheduled for another two ports prior to his bone marrow transplant.
His amazing brother donated his bone marrow, and the moment the surgery was over- they were running around like crazy. NOTHING CAN STOP THESE BOYS!
