Sometimes, I feel like I need to write something profound about sobriety to prove its value. The truth is, sobriety speaks for itself. Who I am today versus who I was when I was drinking are two vastly different individuals. That is a fact.

Since I stopped drinking, I'm more energetic, motivated, confident, patient, and present. My mind is clear and my body is healthy. I am so much stronger. I trust myself and the decisions I'm making because I know I'm doing so rationally, without clouded judgement. I sleep like a baby and wake up feeling rested most every day.

I keep my promises. I honor my boundaries. My emotions are felt deeply and I allow space for all of them. I know this journey isn't linear and I'm forever a work in progress. I'm leaning into the growth, as scary as it may be. I'm an all around better human these days.

I am the living proof. Heavy emphasis on the LIVING. 🙌🏼 If you need more convincing, you'll just have to try it out for yourself. I promise you'll never regret a single sober day. I dare you to prove me wrong. ❤️

Absolutely loved getting to chat with Shelby John about all the things - We discuss sobriety and the many ways that plays into parenting such as creating boundaries, healthy coping mechanisms, and breaking generational trauma. I'm proud to be a part of this community alongside other strong women who aren't afraid to share their truth. Give it a listen when you have a chance! 🎙️

This month, dubbed “Sober October,” is a chance to take a break from alcohol much like many people do during “Dry January.” It’s a time to reset and refresh your mind, body, and spirit, without all the spirits. If you are sober curious or just feel like taking a breather would be nice, you should give it a try! You have nothing to lose but will gain so much in the process.

🍁 You will witness the changing of the leaves AND your energy levels all at once.
🍁 Inhaling the crisp morning air without a hangover is the best way to start your day.
🍁Fireside hangs are always a good time and made even better with delicious NA beer, hot chocolate, cider, or some relaxing nighttime tea.
🍁You can visit pumpkin patches, go apple picking, and check out all the haunted houses (if you dare) while being present and remembering every moment of it.

The season is changing and so are you. Embrace it- what a beautiful thing!

Alcohol is an abusive partner. The ultimate stage five clinger.

No matter how many times I told him to go away, he would always find me. We would have one great night together and I would think to myself that maybe he had changed. Okay, fine. Let's give it another shot. Just like that, he was back in my life. He never gave up. His persistence was unmatched.

He was wild, unpredictable, yet there was something comforting about him that always lured me back in. That comfort always led to chaos and the nice guy act was all a facade. That relationship was the definition of insanity and until I cut ties with him for good, it always would be.

Alcohol left me bruised and broken at times. It left me feeling worthless and filled with regret. It made me feel like I was the crazy one. As it turns out, it was the alcohol all along. Every bad thing that happened could be traced right back to him. The idea that I could ever change someone so toxic, that was truly crazy.

The break up stung at first. I missed him. I thought I needed him to be a complete person. What would life be like without him? Was he really all that bad? I was terrified. I questioned myself constantly but I always circled back to the facts. The truth is, he took away so many beautiful pieces of me.

It is only now that I am becoming whole again, regaining everything I lost along the way and putting the pieces back together one by one. The more time I spend away from him, the stronger I feel. Hindsight is 20/20 and my vision is no longer blurry. I don't have to look over my shoulder because he no longer holds the power. I do. And I'm never, ever giving it back.

We celebrate sobriety over here every single day but today, let's make it official. September 14th is National Sober Day, a day to support, encourage, reflect, and inspire. Sobriety is hands down the best gift I have ever given myself. It's the greatest act of self-love out there. The ultimate life hack.

It may feel like it's out of reach, but I promise you, it isn't. If I can do this, so can you. If you are struggling, please know that there is light at the end of the tunnel and there are helpful resources available to you. All you have to do is ask. 🫶

I hope that sharing my story helps at least one of you realize you are not alone in this. Keep going. ❤️

My therapist recently asked "What is considered fun anymore?" It got me thinking. I used to think alcohol was the fun factor. I could be anywhere, doing any old thing, as long as alcohol was involved. Most of the time, I wasn't actually doing anything at all. I prided myself on being "down for whatever" but in reality, I was just down for the booze. I didn't get it. Now I do. ALCOHOL DOESN'T MAKE IT FUN. The fun makes it fun. The real stuff.

The people you're with.
The activity you're doing.
The laughs you're sharing.
The conversations you're having.
And all the little moments in between.

Friday facts: If it's not fun without the alcohol, then it's probably just not fun at all.

This journey can be lonely at times. You can feel isolated when you are not a part of the majority anymore. You may even lose a few people you considered to be friends along the way. You have to find your people. These are mine.

A shoulder to lean on. An ear to listen. Someone to laugh uncontrollably with. A like-minded buddy who knows exactly what you're going through because they've experienced it too. Yours are out there. You may have to venture outside of your comfort zone to find them but I promise, it's so worth it.

So grateful for these ladies and this community that continues to grow. Sober, but definitely not boring. Come hang and join in on all the fun! We can be your people too. 🫶

I went to write in my journal this morning for the first time in a long while and my last entry hit me hard. This was written just 6 days before my mom died. I could feel it coming.

My takeaways:

🖤 Always trust your gut. It never lies.
🖤 Say everything you need to say to your people NOW.
🖤 Write even when it hurts.
🖤 Stay sober.

I will always wish my mom could've experienced sobriety alongside me. I'm so grateful for mine and I know without it, processing her death would've been disastrous. I'll continue to walk this path for myself, for my kids, and for her, always. She has found her freedom and so have I.

I'll make you proud, Mama. Love you forever.

Happy Feature Friday! Meet my new friend Tanya Headd, who I met through social media and then eventually in person at my events! Tanya has been sober since 2011. Like so many others, she woke up one morning and decided she was tired of feeling sick and tired. She says “Becoming sober has been the best thing I have ever done. I am a better teacher, wife, friend, and overall human being without alcohol in my life. If you are sober-curious or have thoughts on your possibly unhealthy relationship with alcohol, come to a Sober Sister’s Event. They’re fun and you will meet some really amazing like-minded people!”

In addition to Tanya being a teacher and a mom, she is also running a fair-trade Noonday business. Noonday provides dignified jobs for artisans around the world. This month, Tanya is partnering with Dilworth Center to raise funds for their noble cause. provides effective and affordable treatment services for individuals and families affected by alcoholism and drug addiction. For 30 years, Dilworth Center has been the key to recovery for thousands in Charlotte and the surrounding region.

To support Tanya and raise funds for Dilworth Center, please visit the link below. Tanya can be contacted on both IG and FB to chat about sobriety, Noonday, teaching, momming, or anything else you need a friend for. ❤️

08/05/2024

Today, on August 5th 2024, I'm 575 days sober. The number is aesthetically pleasing but isn't really all that significant. The coolest part about today is that I haven't thought to check my day count in quite some time. In the beginning of my sobriety journey, I never imagined that a day would go by when I wouldn't click on my Sober Time app. In fact, I woke up every day already knowing the exact number in my head. Some days went by fast and others felt like I was crawling on my hands and knees to cross the finish line.

As more time goes by, you start to fill your days with things that fill you up and those constant thoughts about how you AREN'T drinking alcohol fade away. They no longer consume you. If you are still counting the days, minutes, and seconds... keep counting. If you crave this type of freedom, just start right where you are at, today. We cannot get anywhere without simply starting and nothing this good comes easy.

You can arrive here too. Keep going. It's worth it. 🖤

Welcome to August 1st, my friends! A brand new month, a fresh start, and National Wellness Month! Sobriety in itself is a daily wellness practice. The removal of alcohol from our bodies alone does wonders for our health. In addition to that, I’ve been trying to get outdoors more often. Simply existing in nature and breathing the fresh air is so beneficial for my physical and mental health.

Here are some other ways you can tune into your wellness this month:

🪷 Focus on self-care: Book a massage, a therapy session, or start a new book
🪷 Focus on your body: Drink water, cut down on sugar, take a walk, stretch
🪷 Focus on your mind: Slow down, practice deep breathing throughout the day

You've got this. Keep going! 💪🏼

Oh hey, 1000+ followers! I officially made it to 4 digits on IG, so I thought it was about time to say hi again - Allow me to reintroduce myself. 🫶

My name is Britney and I'm a mama, wife, and sister (a sober one) on a journey of self-discovery. I believe it's important to share my story along the way so that someone, somewhere, feels a little less alone. I'm currently 18 months sober and life today looks a lot different from my past drinking existence. Today, I'm no longer ignoring my trauma and numbing my pain, but instead feeling all the feels and processing it accordingly. I’m finding joy in nature, meditation, family, adventure, music, writing, delicious food, coffee, and sharing all of that and more with others through connection.

I once thought that binge drinking my weekends and every single occasion away was the only thing left of my adulthood. I was so very wrong and man, I'm so grateful I was. Life has much more to offer us. All we have to do is allow ourselves to show up and be present for it. We must get out of our own way. Today, I am putting myself out there way more than I ever have before. It’s uncomfortable at times but doing it has led me to so many beautiful experiences. I’m finally free from what once held me back and I’m truly LIVING.

If you are struggling with your alcohol consumption, if your mind is constantly clouded with regrets and your failed moderation attempts, or if you are just sick of feeling sick, you are not alone, but that doesn’t have to be your reality. I’m living proof that another way is possible, and it is so much better on the other side. Your story is far from over. It can begin right here and now. Today is a perfect day for a day one.

We all need each other. In the wise words of Laura McKowen, “you cannot do it alone but only you can do it.” Feel free to reach out to me whenever you need a friend to chat with. I’m here. For the record, I don’t sell sobriety, I just celebrate it. Better yet, come to the next event and let’s hang out in person. Our sober squad is growing by the day but there’s always room for more. Thank you for following along and I hope to meet you so soon!

Always Grateful,

Britney ✨

06/24/2024

Today marks one whole year since Sober Sisters Events began. 365 days that I've been at this thing. I've shared my story and connected with so many folks, virtually and in person. SSE has changed along the way and so have I.

When I first embarked on this, I was early into my sobriety. At almost 6 months in, I was finally finding my footing but still trying to find my place. I don't do anything halfway so I jumped in with both feet. My goal was simple: I wanted to share the beauty of sobriety with others through my personal experience and I wanted to meet you guys. I was craving connection with like-minded people and so I filled my own void.

Story: Last week, I went to the Outer Banks with my family. I've been on several vacations since becoming sober but this is the first time I didn't romanticize alcohol at any point. Not even once. I enjoyed quality family time, delicious food, and plenty of poolside NA beers. It was the BEST.

This is why I'm here. Sobriety is ever-changing and so are we. What was once difficult gets easier. If you stick with it, everything gets so much better. Everything. Being vocal about our experience along the way is vital. If one person reads this today and realizes it's possible for them too, then I've done it.

Wisdom: Your people are here. You just have to be willing to put yourself out there and get a little uncomfortable. That's where the growth is. If you are thinking about going sober, be ready for the awkward firsts. Socializing without alcohol for the first time, the first concert, the first vacation, the first date night. To start, they feel a bit staggering but they end up being much more fulfilling. You come out of them stronger every time.

To those of you that continue to support me on this wild ride, to those I've met, and to those I will meet... THANK YOU. You are lovely and you are all worth it. I have some big ideas for year two of SSE and I hope you'll stick around to see it all play out. Life happens. We can't predict the future. But we CAN stay sober to make sure we take it all in as it unfolds. Cheers to one year, friends!

Always Grateful,
Brit 🫶
