Did you know that many of the flavors and ingredients we love in Southern cuisine originated in West Africa? 🌍 Staples like okra, black-eyed peas, rice, yams, and peanuts were brought over through the transatlantic slave trade and became the foundation of what we now call soul food.

From jollof rice to jambalaya, benne seeds to sesame, and fufu to cornbread, African culinary traditions live on in every bite.
