ATTN: Heritage House Yoga Students

Hope you are all well . . .

With the holidays upon us, we have a quick 'scheduling note' for THIS week and NEXT --

#1.) TOMORROW's noon class (Nov. 21st), will be rescheduled for Friday (Nov. 22) at noon.
Our instructor and many of our regulars will be attending the GRATEFULL* City-Wide Thanksgiving Potluck -- taking place from 11:30am - 1:30pm on Main St. downtown (directly in front of Bessie Smith Cultural Center).

* For those unfamiliar, the Gratefull flyer states -- "There is no fee, no expectations, and no agenda -- just an open invitation."

#2.) NEXT WEEK is Thanksgiving week, of course, so all City facilities are CLOSED both THURSDAY and 'Black FRIDAY' (Nov. 28th & 29th).

** Regular yoga classes will resume week after next on Wednesday & Thursday, December 4th & 5th, at the usual noon time.

If and when weather conditions are favorable for burning --

The dog park and east side of the park will be closed for safety, but anyone is welcome to watch fire used as a management tool.

Beautiful acoustic music once again filled the halls of Heritage House last night during our AUTUMN ACOUSTIC CONCERT -- HERE is our dear friend ANTHONY QUAILS (returning to 'The House' after a 4 1/2 year hiatus) -- . . . Performing "When You Turn Forty" -- * It's GREAT to have you back, Anthony -- you were missed more than you know!

INTRODUCING . . . -- 'FLASHBACK FRIDAY!' A series of unique looks back over our shoulder -- At the long and storied history of DON EAVES HERITAGE HOUSE since its inception in the mid-2000s . . .

In the second "round" of the evening, JOEL PERRINO and SAM WALLS duet on "Where Do I Go From Here?" . . .

Last (but DEFINITELY NOT LEAST!) -- Our fourth musician the evening, Mr. JAMES HARRIS, is another recent Heritage House discovery -- Mr. Harris recent entertained local audiences with his jazz piano stylings at a speakeasy event held at the MEMORIAL AUDITORIUM -- James is fluent on guitar, as well, as he demonstrates HERE . . .

TAKE IT AWAY, MAESTRO . . . Mr. JEFF HOFFINGER has been kind enough to act as our Artist Liaison at Heritage House over the last few years, coordinating the lineups for our many concerts -- no easy feat. Jeff's musical lineage hearkens back to the Golden Age of folk music in Greenwich Village, NYC -- an era inhabited by the likes of musical giants -- BOB DYLAN, JONI MITCHELL, PETE SEGER, and many, many others who defined the times in song. HERE is Jeff with his first song of the evening -- "Sometimes" . . .

Up next on last night's program was Covenant College graduate Mr. SAM WELLS with his heartfelt "Delusions of Grandeur" . . .

BEAUTIFUL MUSIC once again filled the halls of Don Eaves Heritage House last night -- Mr. JOEL PERRINO -- recent emigre from the Great State of Colorado -- led off the night with this toe-tapping rumination on the Book of Philippians . . . "TAKE IT AWAY, Joel . . . !"

Who we are and what we do . . .

Heritage House is an arts & civic center run by the City of Chattanooga Department of Youth & Family Development.

We feature a wide variety of free arts events nearly every week of the month (seven in all at last count . . . !)

Our free public arts activities include:

SongWriters’ Night presented by the Chattanooga Songwriters Association -- A coffee house concert with all-original acoustic songs (and the stories that inspired them) presented in an intimate setting (every 2nd Thursday of the month from 7pm - 9pm)

Maker Night -- A creatives potluck & mixer designed for the artistically-minded. Bring your project and a simple side and join us! (every 1st Thursday of the month at 6pm)

English Country Dance (four sessions/month every Tuesday from 7-9pm) *(We just had our ‘graduation ball in early June, but we’ll be starting back up in August 2018!) -- Free historical dancing lessons taught by the charming Susanne Ford; no experience or partner required; bring sneakers or flats to dance in -- the SLIPPERIER THE BETTER!

Golden Age of Hollywood Classic Film Series -- Renowned American-made classics* on the big screen every 3rd Thursday of the month at 2 & 7pm. Curated from recent hi-def restorations and accompanied by a souvenir program & free popcorn! *(We make ONE notable exception — a certified ‘TURKEY’ --each November, of course! -- for our screening. :-) See our MAIN Heritage House Facebook site for a list of dates & titles of upcoming film both great ( . . . and not-so.)

The Backlot: A Place for Filmmakers -- ‘The Backlot’ is a get-together designed to connect filmmakers, talent, and crew. Anyone interested in what goes on “behind” or “in-front-of” the camera is welcome to attend. ‘The Backlot’ usually features a high-profile speaker from the motion picture industry and/or a workshop given by a working professional in their respective area of film craft. Lastly, ’The Backlot’ acts as a workspace for production companies to hold casting calls, script readings, & screenings of their finished works and works-in-progress. Held every third Monday, (weather & national holidays permitting) from 6 - 9:00pm

International Film Series -- In the mood for something a bit more exotic in your cinema fare? Heritage House presents essential foreign films (with English subtitles, of course!) every 4th Thursday at 2 & 7pm. Countries represented this year include France, Germany, Great Britain, and Japan, just to name a few!

Heritage House also serves as the office for the Chattanooga SE TN Film Commission, which helps film productions with locations, permitting, and connecting them with the resources they need to make their production a reality.
