others to damnation
are the city managers of
hell on Earth

exotic flower is honored

angels who don't try to
polish each other's halos

we only have
so many heartbeats

to waste a single one
on deciding who gets
to grow like a sunflower
under the light of the hereafter

who knows what happens
to us once our bodies release
our souls like birthday party balloons?

~ why spend an ounce of energy
on deciding who gets to go to heaven

when we can spend our lives
building it here on Earth

Shots from today's Bachelorette floral workshop. Washington Park Florist hit the road and set up in Medford today for fun, flowers, and celebrating Jasmine's upcoming wedding. The ladies did an awesome job! Thanks very much to Erin Dibenedetto & Kate Beemon for asking us!

...and now for something a little different! We were asked if we could do a hands-on floral workshop as part of the day's festivities for a Bachelorette party. This is the design I demonstrated for them. Stay tuned for more pix. The ladies did a great job!

I've been a floral designer for 48+ years. I came to work at Prattville Florist in '82, bought the shop in '85, changed the name to Washington Park Florist and have been the owner ever since. Over all those years, I've often looked in the trash barrels at the shop, thinking what a waste...all the stems, leaves, old flowers...
Finally there's a solution, and ironically our first pick-up was today, Earth day! Washington Park Florist is the newest client of Black Earth Composting! We separate all of our natural product waste and place it in special bins. It takes a little longer, and it costs a chunk more than our dumpster pick-ups, but it's that much less going into landfills! Happy Earth Day, Mother Nature!

We were honored to host this great group of students from Shore Collaborative this morning! They have been exploring a variety of career options and this month they have been looking into what it would be like to work in a flower shop. They asked lots of questions and each child made their own arrangements to take home. Great way to start the day!
