We are honored, once again, to provide "Free Spirit" roses for the 2024 Walk to Remember. This event is run by The Massachusetts Center for Unexpected Infant and Child Death. Their mission is to support families, communities, and professionals after an unexpected death during pregnancy, infancy, or early childhood. Over the years, we have provided thousands of these magnificent roses to honor the spirits of the little angels these families are grieving the loss of.

then climb a hill instead;
If morning brings you sadness
it’s okay to stay in bed.
If the day ahead feels heavy and your plans feel like a curse,
There’s no shame in rearranging,
don’t make yourself feel worse.
If a shower stings like needles
and a bath feels like you’ll drown;
If you haven’t washed your hair for days,
don’t throw away your crown!
A day is not a lifetime.
A rest is not defeat.
Don’t think of it as failure,
Just a quiet, kind retreat.
It’s okay to take a moment
From an anxious, fractured mind.
The world will not stop turning
While you get realigned!

is in hell

simply because of
who they loved

I told them that
if hell is real
I don't think
it is a destination

I believe hell is a campsite
that gets formed in the hearts
of people who judge others
for living a life that they refuse
to try and understand

those who condemn
others to damnation
are the city managers of
hell on Earth

my love,

let us build a heaven
in the space that exists
between my life and yours

let us create an endless garden
paradise where every single
exotic flower is honored

let us form a community of
angels who don't try to
polish each other's halos

we only have
so many heartbeats
left inside of us

to waste a single one
on deciding who gets
to grow like a sunflower
under the light of the hereafter

who knows what happens
to us once our bodies release
our souls like birthday party balloons?

~ why spend an ounce of energy
on deciding who gets to go to heaven

I've been a floral designer for 48+ years. I came to work at Prattville Florist in '82, bought the shop in '85, changed the name to Washington Park Florist and have been the owner ever since. Over all those years, I've often looked in the trash barrels at the shop, thinking what a waste...all the stems, leaves, old flowers...
Finally there's a solution, and ironically our first pick-up was today, Earth day! Washington Park Florist is the newest client of Black Earth Composting! We separate all of our natural product waste and place it in special bins. It takes a little longer, and it costs a chunk more than our dumpster pick-ups, but it's that much less going into landfills! Happy Earth Day, Mother Nature!
