StoneBridge Drama

StoneBridge Drama "Theatrics with a Purpose" StoneBridge Drama is the theatre program at StoneBridge School, a private Christian school in Chesapeake, VA.
(7)

The program offers performing arts training and opportunities to students, and encourages students to discover and explore the joy of sharing stories through the art forms of theatre and film. While theatre and performing opportunities arise for students in every grade at StoneBridge, StoneBridge Drama is an audition-based program specifically for students in grades 9-12, with occasional opportuni

ties for younger grades, pending on the show. StoneBridge Drama produces at least two major productions every year: a film festival of student-produced films in January and a major musical in March. They also host an annual Princess Tea Party for young girls and their moms, and a series of summer camps.

"Newsies" and Christmas Cabaret rehearsals aren't the only things keeping us busy! The original student films for this year's student film festival are almost all finished with their shoots and beginning their video editing.

Ames wrapped shooting for his film, "20 / 40," recently and we can't wait to see his film!

Make sure you’re on the lookout for the student film festival information and event in January so you don’t miss this and all of the original student films!

Yesterday was StoneBridge Drama’s first Christmas Cabaret rehearsal, and we can’t wait for this special event! There will be an original tap ensemble number choreographed by 11th grader, Evelyn Obal, a musical theatre number with music and direction by StoneBridge alumnae, Rachel Wingfield and Kenna Cribb, plus over a dozen other solo and small group performances by current students and alumni!

Save the date for December 20-21! All profit from this special event goes towards local charities: Mercy Drops Dream Center and domestic violence victims through YWCA South Hampton Roads.

We have been blessed immensely through the years, and are so honored to get to share our talents to be a blessing to others this Christmas!

Snow always has to make sure her skin looks perfectly airbrushed, you know!

"Twice Upon a Time" was such a special and fun show! It was not only our first-ever student-directed theatre production, it was also our fifth Fall Show (non-musical performance opportunity specifically targeted to feature 6th-9th grade student actors).

Check out all of the photo call and behind-the-scenes photos by Emily Perez, Amy Wirtz, and Kenna Cribb here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1171260697785650&type=3

Our photo call has specific high light moments from the show (as well as some behind-the-scenes memories!). Why do photo call, you may ask? We love the chance to do photo call, because it allows us to capture specific shots that can be hard to catch during a rehearsal. From a theatre education standpoint, it is also a great time for the cast to mentally refresh on the show and discover stronger physical and facial choices without the physical and vocal take of running the entire performance.

Congratulations to the 6th-9th grade student actors and crew, and to the 10th-12th grade student directors and production team leaders who helped to bring this show to the stage! We are very proud of the hard work they put in under the guidance of Mrs. Amy Wirtz (Rehearsal & Production Supervisor) and Miss Kenna Cribb (Directing Instruction & Show Producer).

One of our Fall Show actresses, Emily Perez (9th grade), also took many of the photo call pictures! We missed Mr. Wetherbee, who usually does our photo call and had a conflict this year... But we're super proud of Emily for stepping up to help!

Nothing like seizing the day at 7am on a Tuesday morning!!

Newsies rehearsals are only in week two, but we’re not messing around! Our choreographer (StoneBridge alumna, Hannah Crocker Lampp) is doing an incredible job on the dances with the cast! They’ve already learned the majority of the “Seize the Day” choreography, as well as part of “King of New York!” We can’t wait to dive into ensemble music and stage combat and more character work this week, too!
