Ricky Bobby would like to remind you that he can’t do everything at Freight Train. With 7 aid stations across 19 hours, it takes roughly 40 volunteers to pull off this race. Come out and volunteer! Or come run one of the shorter distances and then volunteer in the evening. We have shifts in the morning, afternoon, evening and night.

Down in Currituck County NC this morning to time the Race on the Runway 10k and 5k. Unfortunately, the Nor’easter forced the cancellation of the remainder of the festival. But it is a beautiful morning for a race.

Willis River moves back up to early January this year. We will run on Sunday January 4th.

This old school Fat Ass features a challenging trail, multiple water crossings, lots of wrong turns and calling the RD mean names.

We are talking about our handmade finisher awards at Freight Train for this week’s Trail Talk Tuesday.

They take a long while to make and produce. Early registration (6 weeks or more before race date) really helps us ensure we have enough of each type.

It is looking to be a record crowd at our Piedmont 8 Hour in 2 weeks. We have over 70 runners currently registered.

We do need more volunteers. I need another 2-3 volunteers willing to man road crossings. We have two crossings that must be manned for the duration of the event. Having another 2-3 volunteers allows me to rotate folks out.

This is a great opportunity to earn a free race with a few hours of volunteering.

Enjoying a beautiful morning timing the Rehab Rover 10k Canicross event in Gordonsville today. This is year 2 of the event and my 2nd year timing it.

There are a lot worse things to do than spending the day in the mountains with dogs. This is a fundraiser race for animal rehab and we are happy to be a part of it again this year.

The Middle

Everyone loves our DFL railroad spike. At Freight Train, we will start a new award. This one is called “The Middle.”

The concept is simple. After the race, we will identify the middle finisher (or 2 if it is an even number of finishers). They will then receive a free entry to Freight Train in 2026. We will do this for all 3 distances.

We are taking care of you middle of the packers.

Since making his debut at the 2023 edition of Piedmont, Forest the Bear has logged 180+ miles at Piedmont and Dogwood. I believe he will go over 200 career miles in 2 weeks.

What is the cause? Every lap brings another donation to Band of Runners, an organization devoted to getting veterans and their families out on the trails. We are one month from trail camp. I am fortunate enough to be heading back for year 4 (year 3 as a mentor).
