The Dress Doctor Soheila Ghofrani and her team of expert seamstresses can finely replicate any article of clothing, even from a photo, garnering praise from Vogue magazine as the best “Copy Cat” in the Midwest. Specializing in couture and high-

end contemporary designs for men and women, The Dress Doctor can take any alteration to the next level by meticulously fitting and adjusting clothing to suit any figure without ruining the integrity of the garment. Specialties include precision tailoring, custom garment construction and reconstruction, repair, resizing, and bridal alterations. The Dress Doctor also provides a Wardrobe Detox service where a team of experts refresh, rejuvenate, and reorganize your wardrobe in the privacy of your home. The Dress Doctor prides itself on collaborating with both up-and-coming and established artists to design for any event. In addition to design assistance, our team will assist in both sample and production pattern-making, sending out patterns for grading and marking, and will create samples or duplicates for any runway or showroom. A small production lot can also be utilized with no minimums. From custom couture garments and wardrobe organization, to imagining and creating a new clothing line, The Dress Doctor is dedicated to making every client’s design ideas a reality through outstanding customer service and attention to detail.

Honoring a very important person today. A lot of our clients knew him as Kas but he was my uncle and like a father to me. For many years Kas helped run our show room by acting as a comfort to so many of our brides and clients, chatting away on the phone with our regulars, and keeping our schedule organized. His humor and kindness always brightened up our day and made some stressful situations a lot easier to deal with. Thank you for your time and all that you gave to our family and our business. We were lucky to have known you and miss you greatly 🥀

Our wonderful bride Jessica in her gown from her bodice wasn’t fitting exactly how she pictured so the team at Alice in Ivory acted fast and got us material from the designer to recut the top. You wouldn’t know that we even touched it, the fit came out exactly as Jessica had hoped. We are lucky to have supportive stores working with us to make sure the process is seamless up until the end for you.

Our amazing bride Susan brought in a gown from the 1950’s that her great aunt and mother both wore at the weddings. Instead of restyling, she had us restore and custom fit this beautiful and extremely delicate piece. It took about 12 hours just to take apart the bodice because as soon as you would pull one thread the lace would come apart. After hours of work and several muslin fittings we brought the piece back to life and kept the integrity of the original design and still had it match Susan’s personality, which as you can see is playful, whimsical and kind. Thank you for working with us on such an amazing project!

Our Story

About The Dress Doctor Herself

Soheila Ghofrani, also known as The Dress Doctor, has been an expert in her craft for over 30 years.

Her childhood summers were spent working for her uncle, a prominent tailor in Iran. Constantly surrounded by threads and needles, she learned French sewing techniques from both her uncle and her mother at home. Eventually Soheila decided to study Architecture, moving to the United States in 1979. To supplement her income, she would sew and make small alterations for her professors.
