Hey Brown Girl Collective presents, In Our Image & Likeness: The Reboot Edition is the return of our signature {Brunch + Conversation Series} event dedicated to highlighting the stories and experiences of Black and Brown women artists, creatives and entrepreneurs.

When you arrive enjoy a refreshing, summertime-inspired beverage and get comfy! We will catch up with past featured guests including multi-disciplinary artist/designer Kelley Kfleye Moseley, vocalist Meagan McNeal, visual artist Gloria I Rivera, event designer Erika Jones Purvis, poet and arts administrator Leslé Honoré and creative Concitta Cavin!

Then we will hear from our featured entreprenuer, Niehla Ollie, owner of Homegirls Hummus! I can't wait to chat up close and personal with Niehla and hear more about her entrepreneurial journey. And YESSSS there will be a and a spread of her AH-MAZING hummus offerings!!

In Our Image & Likeness is an experience ntentionally curated by creative gadabout, Michelle E.L. Merritt. It provides an opportunity for the community of Black and Brown women artists, creatives and entrepreneurs to convene, connect and most importantly, celebrate each other and our featured guest. Hosted at aplomb aplomb creative salon, I believe it is critically important to 'lift up' AND make space to share our experiences as we journey to dream and aspire to inspire.

Yesterday at I hosted a gathering of and from various industries throughout Chicago. It was the 2nd Annual Nicole Johnson-Scales Design Your Professional Joy client celebration! is an AMAZING person & resource. We all deserve to be seen.
Guests noshed on sweets by & enjoyed a little from the collection…T’was a good day🖤

Not so quick story: I’ve spent most of the day reflecting (judging myself) on yesterday’s event specifically me public speaking😫😭😑 …I DREAD public speaking! Honestly, I dread public anything i.e. peopling, performing, adulting…all of it! (SN: I think artist Sia is brilliant for figuring out how to share her art and not her person…) If I could live behind a curtain, I would!

Nonetheless here I am and entrepreneurship + adulting demand my full “speaking self” to be present🙃. So when asked to speak (to people!)about and the vision behind the space... 😵‍💫😬 Maybe one day it will feel effortless but until that day appears, what I know for sure is God gave me this vision and it is way bigger than all my human shortcomings and fears. The first time I was introduced to she was being honored with an award in front of an audience of hundreds for her work in community banking. She was poised, gracious and seemingly flawless. I thought welp… lawd knows I would be melting in this moment. Fast forward as I prep to host her company’s Design Your Professional Joy 2nd annual event, it’s confirmed she is all of who I observed her to be many years ago but more— add authentic and kind.

The note from her daughter Kendall is also another reminder to me that even when the vision doesn’t make sense to me and I don’t want to say yes to public speaking, Black women need space to gather, see each other, laugh about our natural hair, meet other artist, creatives CEO’s and Dr.’s in the academy, leaders, and change agents— our daughters need our voices. Speak even when your voice trembles and you’re melting on the inside. God got you! DM for more info on hosting your next private event!
