Mumbai, Feb 26 (IANS) The Maharashtra government on Tuesday announced three per cent increase in dearness allowance (DA) of about 14 lakh employees.The revised DA along with the arrears of eight months will be paid along with the February salary.This will lead to the monthly burden of Rs 150 crore on the state government. To clear these dues, the government will bear a total burden of Rs 1,200 crore.The government’s announcement comes after the various associations of the government employees had threatened to launch agitation for their various demands including the increase in DA."Approval has been given to pay the increased 3 per cent DA with arrears from the month of July 2024 to the government employees in state,” reads the government notification.The Central government increases its employees' DA every year in January and July....

Bhubaneswar, Feb 26 (IANS) Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja on Tuesday directed the state police department and Puri District Collector to prepare the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on the preparations for the smooth conduct of the famous Ratha Yatra at Puri, 2025.Ahuja gave the instructions while chairing a preliminary preparation meeting for the Ratha Yatra which is going to begin on June 27.As per a statement issued by the state government, the discussions primarily focused on crowd management and security measures to ensure the smooth conduct of the Ratha Yatra.The state police administration has proposed the installation of 343 CCTV cameras at key locations aiming to enhance surveillance and real time monitoring during the Car Festival.The police proposed to install CCTVs at roads connecting to Puri, Grand Road (Bada Danda), Puri Beach, and the Gundicha Temple in Puri for better traffic management, crowd control, check criminal activities and ensure law and order.Besides, the identified locations for CCTV installation include Uttara Square to Malatipatapur, Puri Grid Station to Konark, Balighai to Nimapara, Mangala Ghat to Satapada, and other crucial points such as bus stands, railway stations, parking areas, and inner lanes of Puri city.The Chief Secretary emphasised that the CCTV surveillance system should meet national standards and directed officials to take necessary steps for its effective implementation.It was also decided in the meeting that an Integrated Command and Control Center at Puri will be set up during the festival, with officers from various departments stationed at the control room to perform various tasks of their respective departments.The system will facilitate real-time monitoring, crime prevention, crowd control, emergency response, and disaster management.The meeting discussed the infrastructure and technical requirements for the Rath Yatra.The Chief Secretary has emphasized on taking necessary steps for the preparation of the groundwork for the Rath Yatra and the use of technology so that our CCTV system becomes national level.Furthermore, special attention was also given to public announcement systems to ensure smooth communication during the grand event.The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Satyabrata Sahu, Director General of Police (DGP) Y.B. Patna, Feb 26 (IANS) The Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government approved 146 proposals during a Cabinet meeting held at the Chief Minister's Secretariat on Tuesday.Ministers from all departments were present at the meeting, which was chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. Among 146 proposals, 120 schemes for south Bihar.The total allocation of all 146 proposals has an estimated cost of Rs 30,000 crore.In the third and fourth phases of Pragati Yatra, Nitish Kumar visited districts like Patna, Bhojpur, Jehanabad, Arwal, Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Rohtas, Kaimur, Buxar, Lakhisarai, Jamui and other districts.Earlier, Rs 20,000 crore was sanctioned for 187 schemes in north Bihar during the last cabinet meeting.A total investment of Rs 50,000 crore, aligning with announcements made during CM Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra.After the approval in the Cabinet, these proposals will be passed in the upcoming budget session of the Bihar Assembly starting from February 28.Multiple government departments secured budgetary approvals for key infrastructure and welfare projects.The majority of the proposals are related to the Rural Works Department including road construction, Jan Jiwan Hariyali, Tola Sampark Yojana, Har Ghar Nal Ka Jal and others.Besides this, other departments, include education, health, agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, urban development, Public Health Engineering, Water Resource department, Road construction department, sports, infrastructure development, and public welfare initiatives.The state cabinet has approved funds for Buxar for developmental projects, a new Auditorium and Science Bhawan to be constructed with an investment of ₹47 crore in Magadh Mahila College Patna and a new educational building will be built in Kaimur.The government's focus on job creation, religious site development, and improved public facilities reflects a comprehensive strategy for state-wide growth.The approvals aim to accelerate the economy, infrastructure improvement, and public welfare in Bihar ahead of the 2025 Assembly Elections.This large-scale funding highlights Nitish Kumar's commitment to state-wide development and comes at a crucial time as Bihar gears up for the upcoming state elections.--IANSajk/pgh

Jammu, Feb 26 (IANS) Setting the stage for the upcoming budget presentation on March 7, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday chaired a series of pre-Budget meetings with several key government departments to finalise proposals for the upcoming Budget."The meetings were held to understand the sector wise priorities and to align it with government’s development agenda," an official statement said."The meetings would continue in the coming days with other departments also scheduled to brief the Chief Minister."During the consultations, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah emphasised the need for a pragmatic and growth-oriented budget that addresses public aspirations and strengthens key sectors of the economy."He reiterated the government’s commitment to inclusive development, transparent governance and efficient utilization of public resources," the statement said."The discussions delved into both Capital Expenditure (CapEx) and Revenue Expenditure (RevEx), with a focus on optimizing budgetary allocations for infrastructure development, social welfare programs, and service delivery improvements."Chief Minister Abdullah directed the departments to prioritise flagship projects, accelerate ongoing initiatives, and ensure timely implementation of development schemes.As part of the Budget preparation process, the Chief Minister has already held extensive consultations with public representatives from all 20 districts, including DDC chairpersons and MLAs.Additionally, interactions were conducted with stakeholders from industry, trade and travel, academia, intelligentsia, tourism, sports, agriculture, horticulture, and other sectors."These engagements aim to incorporate diverse perspectives into the budget, ensuring that the government’s financial roadmap is in sync with the needs and aspirations of the people," the statement added.With Tuesday's consultations covering eight major departments, the pre-Budget exercise has been in full swing.The Chief Minister will continue to hold meetings with other government departments in the coming days to gather inputs and finalise Budgetary allocations."Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also holds the Finance portfolio, is personally overseeing the process to ensure that the upcoming budget reflects the government’s vision for a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir," the statement further added.The Budget is scheduled to be presented in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on March 7 during the upcoming Budget Session commencing from March 3.--IANSzi/pgh

Guwahati, Feb 25 (IANS) Describing the country's northeastern region as the 'New Engine' of development of India, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday announced several new initiatives and projects related to the Railway and IT industries which would be a huge boost to development in Assam.Addressing the ‘Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025’ in Guwahati, the Railways Minister said that a new mega railway workshop would be established at Basbari in Assam's Bodoland areas fulfilling a key commitment under the Bodoland agreement while accelerating industrial growth.Additionally, a dedicated mid-life reconstruction facility for locomotives would be set up in Lumding to enhance railway operations and maintenance, said Vaishnaw.He further said that Guwahati railway station is undergoing a major transformation into a world-class facility, incorporating a 12-storey IT park to foster technological innovation and employment.“Assam would also see the introduction of two Amrit Bharat Trains within the next 10 months, along with two new intercity train services connecting Guwahati to Silchar and Agartala,” the minister announced.Announcing to enhance railway connectivity and operational efficiency, the strategic ‘Chicken Neck’ corridor would undergo quadrupling work, he said that the Kokrajhar – Gelephu railway project would establish a vital railway link between India and Bhutan, facilitating trade and connectivity.Six new Gati Shakti terminals have been sanctioned to optimise freight movement and logistics efficiency across the region, the Railways minister said....

The “Arambai Tenggol” delegation led by Public Relations Officer Robin Mangang Khwairakpam urged the Governor to take up their demands with the concerned authority as well with the Central government so that the 21-month conflict can be resolved at the earliest.The group demanded to introduce National Register of Citizens (NRC) with 1951 as the base year, deportation of illegal immigrants, abrogation of the Suspension of Operations (SoO) agreement with militant groups, destruction of poppy plantations and reinstating the Scheduled Tribe (ST) status of the Meitei (Meetei) community.They also demanded withdrawal of ST status from Illegal immigrants, no arrest or legal action against Village Volunteers including ‘Arambai Tenggol’ by any Commission, Tribunal, Court or authority and agency.The outfit also demanded amendment of Manipur Land Reforms and Land Records Act 1960 for equal implementation in both hill and valley region.Since the ethnic conflict broke out in Manipur between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo-Hmar tribals, the “Arambai Tenggol” for the first time placed their demands before the Governor and urged to take up them with concerned authority as well with the Centre so that the ethnic hostilities can be resolved at the earliest.Meanwhile, according to the local media, the two militant outfits -- Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF) and People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Tuesday observed their 46th foundation day in their hideouts and secret locations.The RPF and the PLA have been demanding for ‘sovereign Manipur’....
