Big Delicious Planet was founded in 1994 as a backstage rock & roll caterer, providing meals and fulfilling those notorious dressing requirements for thousands of rock bands. Today you’re more likely to find us catering stylish weddings, designing one of a kind events in the middle of our urban farm, and feeding globally inspired cuisine to the employees of Chicago’s Facebook office on a daily bas

Just as the business began on a whim more than two decades ago, we enjoy taking an idea and seeing what happens when we try it out, whether it’s planting a vegetable garden, creating a new menu, or implementing a new sustainability program. What started as a simple plan for a small garden turned into an urban farm with 75 raised beds and an apiary. Our urban farm is a showcase in our belief in creating fresh menus reflecting Chicago’s growing season. In 2013 we became a 4 Star Certified Green Restaurant and were named “Greenest Caterer in America,” a status awarded to foodservice businesses
that adhere to the strictest environmental standards.

Heidi & Chelsey had their first meeting with the Obama Foundation’s event team today! We’re thrilled to share that Big Delicious Planet has been selected as one of the caterers for Home Court at The Obama Presidential Center, opening in 2026. It was great to meet their team, check out a model of the campus, take a 3D tour of the event space, and then drive by the campus after the meeting to check out the progress.

The Home Court will feature several multipurpose spaces accommodating groups from 30 to 999 people. We can’t wait to be a part of Chicago’s next iconic event space!
