Join us Monday, August 19 at 6 PM – Working Studios: Christmas Tree Harvesting with Sangwoo Yoo at 6018 N Kenmore Ave, Chicago

Come help us repurpose Christmas Tree needles with artist Sangwoo Yoo, who will then use the materials in their work for the upcoming Myth of the Organic City.

"The first step in my work process involves manually sorting the needles from dried Christmas trees, which is quite labor-intensive," says Sangwoo Yoo. β€œMy paramount focus is on embracing ephemerality and leaving behind a minimal environmental footprint. My artistic pursuits are centered on creating sustainable materials that incorporate elements of life and mortality.”

Sangwoo Yoo, born in Seoul, is an artist driven by the intention to reawaken modern senses and aims to engage with social realities and the environment through the ecological cycles of materials. He received his Master of Fine Arts in Sculpture at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in the United States and Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Seoul in Korea.

Join us this Saturday at 1 PM for Water Conversation with Andrea Jackson at 6018North.

Here are some images shared by Andrea, from the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi, who will lead an open conversation about the sacredness of water.

A main goal 6018north.org/water is to rethink our relationship to water – Chicago's most important resource and vital to all life. Join us as we ask how we can best honor it and why women are the voice to care for the water.

At 2 PM, 6018North director Tricia Van Eck will lead a tour of the exhibition, and from 3-6 PM we will enjoy a closing celebration with food and drink. We'll have watery libations, soup, and other foods that hold water and nourish us!

As Kerry mentions in the warning, there are many artworks, documents, and videos spanning four floors, so summarizing this show so succinctly was no small feat!!
