Chicago Cultural Center 78 E Washington 10/13/22 ANNOUNCEMENT: In-person classes are BACK!

Classes are open to new members: PLEASE JOIN US! This page is dedicated to our class "The Chicago Senior Clown Troupe Class" taught by Karen Hoyer and to the touring group: The Chicago Senior Clown Troupe, which performs all over Chicago mostly in senior centers, nursing homes, and hospitals. We meet from 2:00-3:00pm every FRIDAY, each month at the Chicago Cultural Center's Renaissance Center, 78

East Washington. The classes are free. We warm up with improv and theatre games, work on specific clown skills such as juggling, music, puppetry and magic. We develop our make-up skills and create costumes and props. We learn performance skills such as stage presence, character development, partnering, and gag writing. We write and rehearse original group gags and develop solo performance schtick. The schedule may adjust to every other Friday, allotting time for rehearsing skills and gags for upcoming performances. Our sponsor is the City of Chicago Department of Family & Support Services and Elizabeth "Ellie" Baum is our supervisor at Renaissance Court. HISTORY: Founded in 2007 by Joyce Gallagher, it started as a FREE class in the Art of Clowning for fun-loving seniors "60 and better." The class branched out to become the Chicago Senior Clown Troupe, performing for senior centers, nursing homes, and as featured performers for Senior Fest at Millennium Park. Claire Wedermeyer was the first teacher, Karen Hoyer is the current teacher, Elisha Walters was the Troupe Leader (Boss Clown) for many years when the group went out to perform.

Hats & Noses. A gathering of clowns: Rainbow Lily, Shorty, Salty, Liz, Fuchi, Dot, and Jelly - Hiccup was there too! We play every 1st & 3rd Friday of each month.
