The Corporate Transparency Act (CTA) requires certain companies to file a Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) report with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). The BOI report is filed electronically through FinCEN's Beneficial Ownership Secure System (BOSS).

The BOI report includes the following information for each beneficial owner:
Legal name
Date of birth
Current address
Unique identifying number from an acceptable identification document
Name of the state or jurisdiction that issued the identification document
Image of the identification document

The BOI report is a one-time filing requirement, unless the company needs to update or correct information. Filing is free, quick, and secure, and most companies can file without the help of an accountant or lawyer.

The CTA was enacted in 2021 to protect U.S. national security and curb illicit finance. It applies to corporations, limited liability companies, and other similar entities that are created or registered to do business in the U.S.

Starting January 1, 2024, U.S. business owners must submit Beneficial Ownership Information Reports (BOIR) to FinCEN. File your BOI report easily with BOIR.COM
