Hand-waxed amaryllis! We think of amaryllis as a holiday flower but their blooming season extends all the way through spring. My friend and I waxed a large batch of these bulbs to enjoy this spring. They are so easy to enjoy with very little care. Just provide some indirect light and watch them grow and bloom. No need to water or place in soil when the bulbs are waxed. We waxed nearly a dozen varieties and I’m eager to see how these bulbs perform. Amaryllis are long lasting cut flowers, too, and can be used in a variety of innovative designs. We didn’t have a white Christmas this year but we are making up for it in January! And as I’m gazing out the window at the falling snow (we will be getting an additional 2-4 inches today) my mind wandered to times, like today, when the weather made it difficult to deliver flowers including on Valentine’s Day several years back. Now,about Valentine’s Day 2025–I will NOT be open on Valentine’s Day this year. I’ll be on a long-awaited, bucket-list trip with my husband and siblings. This year, Valentine’s Day is on a Friday. I WILL be open the Monday through Wednesday of Valentine’s week, so if you want to get Valentine flowers for the precious people in your life, you will need to pre-order them for delivery between Monday, February 10th and Wednesday, February 12th. The advantage is that your Valentines will enjoy their flowers all week long. You don’t have to wait to order your flowers. This year, I’ve chosen the word “create.” As in: create meaningful and memorable experiences, create space for new possibilities, create floral arrangements that bring comfort and joy to you and yours . . . October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. National Mammography Day is the 3rd Friday of October and is a reminder for all women to talk with your health care provider about whether a mammogram is recommended for you and if so to get it scheduled! In general, women age 40 and older should get a mammogram annually. Early detection saves lives!
