The Longworth-Anderson Series is pleased to announce that trumpet player Myles Ellington Twitty and his quartet will perform on June 2 prior to RAVI COLTRANE featuring Gadi Lehavi and Elé Howell with special guest Robin Eubanks at Memorial Hall OTR!

Twitty is a jazz trumpeter, arranger, and bandleader from Cincinnati. He began playing trumpet at six years old after being introduced by his father, a music educator and jazz trombonist. Several years later, he heard Miles Davis’ “Kind of Blue,” which showed him a whole new world of musical possibility, pushing him to become the best trumpeter and jazz musician he could be. In 2018, he was admitted to the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and graduated in the spring of 2022. Twitty is now well on his way to becoming a powerful force in the jazz scene, having performed and studied with prominent modern jazz giants, including Marcus Printup, Kurt Elling, Carla Cook, Craig Bailey, Mike Wade, Walter Blanding, and Marc Cary.

The quartet includes:
Myles Ellington Twitty (trumpet)
Ben Tweedt (piano)
Cadence Okuwobi (bass)
Phillip Tipton (drums)

Join us for the critically acclaimed, GRAMMY-nominated saxophonist, bandleader, and composer Ravi Coltrane at Memorial Hall OTR NEXT WEEK on June 2! As the second son of John and Alice Coltrane, Ravi Coltrane has followed in his parents' musical footsteps, even collaborating with Alice Coltrane on "Translinear Light" in 2004. Among the legendary names he’s recorded with are McCoy Tyner, Terence Blanchard, and Elvin Jones. His Longworth-Anderson Series concert will feature rising jazz musicians pianist Gadi Lehavi and drummer Ele Howell, along with special guest Robin Eubanks. This is a can’t-miss event for jazz fans!

As a GRAMMY-winning musician and President of Blue Note Records, Don Was believes that “there’s a unique sound and feel to Detroit that permeates the music in a way that resonates all over the globe.” His hand-picked roster of collaborators forms the Pan-Detroit Ensemble, drawing inspiration from the sounds of John Lee Ho**er, Donald Byrd, Joe Henderson, George Clinton, Mitch Ryder, and The Stooges. Don Was & The Pan-Detroit Ensemble will perform a mix of original compositions as well as interpretations of songs by Yusef Lateef, Olu Dara, and more.

Her latest album, 'Visions,' sees the consummate songwriter grappling with the world around her. 'The reason I called the album Visions is because a lot of the ideas came in the middle of the night or in that moment right before sleep,' says Jones. It's a 12-song set that finds her singing about feeling free and accepting what life brings.
