Next Event: Saturday, October 1, 2022 Gates open at 8 am

WHAT ARE HUNTER TRIALS? Hunter Trials were originally created to test the stamina, level headedness, and bravery of hunt horses and riders in an organized equestrian event designed to simulate the terrain and conditions found in the typical hunt field. Unlike stadium jumping shows, the addition of the "handy hunter" class tests the horse a

nd rider's ability to trot a log, open and close a gate while mounted, jump several fences, and for the rider to dismount and remount. The horse is judged on its manners, way of going, as well as its suitability as a field (fox) hunter. In today's Camargo Hunter Trials, now in it's 81st year, the large "Outside" ring, where spectators and tailgaters line the ropes to enjoy the horse action as well as the tailgating competition, represents the traditional hunter trials. Horse and riders jump logs, stone walls, and post and rail fences ranging from 2'6" to 3' 6". The "small" ring allows young riders to experience of the thrills of the glorious outdoor venue while jumping more traditional type jumps. COSTS:
Admission is $5 per person. RINGSIDE PARKING: (Includes eligibility for the Tailgate Competition)
*All sponsorship levels include parking on the ropes, admission, and the ability to compete and begin at $85. Sponsorship* required for tailgate competition and reserved parking spot on the ropes. Become a sponsor: https://camargohunt.com/home/attend-the-day/

IS IT LIKE A FOOTBALL TAILGATE? - Yes and no. Yes: You bring food to the field, and eat it outside, or in your car, or a tent or whatever you bring to the field. No: It's not football - It's a horse show in a field with Cross-Country jumping and it's much easier to get a front row seat. JUDGING: There are two-three judges and an assistant who will taste up to TWO dishes from each tailgate. The judges start at one end of the field in the Judges Golf Cart at around 11:30 am and work their way around. We usually finish by 1:30 and award ribbons by 2:30. That's the goal, anyway. RIBBON CATEGORIES - Tailgates are judged on Food and or Presentation. Based upons chosen categories. That's completely up to you. Many tailgaters bring a blanket and sit on it and eat. A few folks go all out and bring antique tables, crystal, china, silver, and candelabras...or a u-haul and a big screen tv. Either way, it's a very friendly and fun event. FOOD QUANTITY? Bring enough for yourselves and the judges. Beyond that....While it's not required, you are certainly welcome to invite hungry-onlookers to join you who are lurking around your tailgate and make some new friends. AVAILABLE FACILITIES: Lots of grass, trash cans, and a few portals. DOGS: Sure! - and p**p bags, please. All dogs must be on a leash at all times. Storebought or catering is discouraged and may result in points being deducted. That's about it. Come and have fun!
