Once upon a time… there were only 2 Latino events in the city of Cincinnati, once was at the well-known "Corinthians" in Clifton with Dj Rudy and Tino Barbosa and the other was The Havana Martini Club downtown Cincinnati which would have a live salsa band once a month, needless to say the Latin music & dancing scene was very scarce.

Many mainstream venues would not give the Latin community a chance to have a Latin Night or a even have Latin Music played at their venues. In 1999 an underground type club by the University of Cincinnati called "Mad Frog" started the most famous "Salsa Night" with the salsa band Tropicoso lead by Nick Radina & Larry Feldner would run Monday nights for 14 years straight.

It wasn't until 2005 when I (Dj Aikon) would make the breakthrough at a mainstream venue called "Jeff Ruby's Tropicana" located in the newly opened Newport on the Levee where Dj Aikon & CincyLatino created the infamous “Thursday Latin Night” which it would run successfully for 4 years until the venue closed due to unforeseen circumstances.

After that we would move on to do weekly events all over the city, which would help promote and support the Latin Music scene in Cincinnati, in order to become what it is today.

I am proud of our History and how big and diverse the Latin Scene has become! A lot more coming soon!

Thank you to all of us that kept knocking on doors trying to support and promote the latin scene in Cincinnati, from the dance instructors, promoters, venues, dj’s, salsa bands, musicians and singers.
I mean look at where we are now… just wow…♥️
