CLARKSBURG GROUPS ORGANIZE “HOLIDAY NIGHT OUT”
A Broadway-style community theater production, a concert by a high school jazz orchestra, continuous live music in three venues, and a traditional Christmas holiday Santa Land with carolers is planned for Friday, December 13, in uptown Clarksburg, according to organizers of the various events.
“Holiday Night Out” in Clarksburg represents the combined and cooperative efforts of the Robinson Grand Performing Arts Center, the City of Clarksburg, Clarksburg Uptown, the Clarksburg CVB, the West Virginia Jazz Society, and Clarksburg Community Action into one promotional effort.
“With the opening of the Robinson Grand and the resulting uptick in economic development, Clarksburg is changing,” said Eric Spelsberg, WVJS President. “We thought it could be time for the Jazz Strolls to change and work in sync with all the other holiday events being planned.”
WVJS has hosted Jazz Strolls on the second Friday of December for the past eight years, and in that time, uptown Clarksburg has seen the opening of the Robinson Grand, Clarksburg’s 1000-seat historic theater and anchor for cultural development in the region, plus new music and dining venues, the Aquarium Lounge and CCA on Main.
“When the City and the CVB added Santa Land to the holiday offerings, we asked all those vested in what was happening to meet, and Holiday Night Out was the result,” added Spelsberg.
The evening begins 5pm to 7pm with Santa Land at corner of Second Street and W. Pike Street, and with the Robert C. Byrd High School Jazz Band appearing in CCA on Main 5:30pm to 7pm.
Doors open at 6:30pm for a 7:30pm community theater performance of Annie, The Musical in the RGPAC.
90-minute sets of live music are set for 5:30pm and 7:30pm in Kelly’s Irish Pub, the Aquarium Lounge, and Washington Square and continue at 9:30pm in Kelly’s Irish Pub and Washington Square.
Full details are included in an event guide posted on WVJazzSociety.com.
Major funding for Holiday Night Out is provided by the Barbara B. Highland Fund for the Arts, Dominion Energy, the West Virginia Jazz Society, Clarksburg Uptown, and the City of Clarksburg. Additional in-kind contributions are provided by the Clarksburg Convention & Visitors Bureau and Clarksburg Community Action.
As has been the case in the past, there will be no cover charge for the live music venues, but a suggested voluntary admission donation of $10 will be accepted to benefit the WVJS and Clarksburg Community Action.
