Waterford Hills Raceway Open Track Day

Waterford Hills Raceway Open Track Day Open Track Day events allow regular drivers and cars to run full throttle on our road course. Comm We have a solution for you! Sounds kind of dangerous! That’s ok!

So you want to drive really – really fast without worrying about local law enforcement? Waterford Hills Raceway opens up the track to the general public four times a year allowing regular people like you and me to take on a real road course with our street cars! Well – most things are if you don’t respect them. Our track days are broken up into groups based on experience and lap times. We welcome

new people and provide detailed instruction covering On-Track etiquette and safety. Safety for our drivers is #1! I’m afraid that some hot-dog is going to run into me out there! Our Corner Marshalls and Safety stewards are the best in the region. Detroit Grand Prix and any other national races in the region depend on the support of our staff. Waterford Hills has a strict Point –To – Pass policy. No driver is allowed to pass another unless the driver being overtaken gives a visible point to the faster driver. Passing zones are also limited based on the skill group. Novice groups are only allowed to pass on the back straight. Intermediates can pass on the front and back straight, and Experienced can pass anywhere except the area of track between turns 4 and 5. But I don’t have a sports car. Many of the vehicles that attend our Track Days are common econo-boxes. In fact – if you do bring out a high dollar, high performance car, the first thing you might have to learn is how to swallow your ego… We regularly see good drivers in Neons, Miatas and other 4cyl cars passing high-horsepower sports cars. (I have personal experience with this scenario; I drive a GT500 that has been passed by all of the above!)

My car isn’t set up for racing. Neither is mine! The only things you need to bring is a car that will pass a simple safety inspection and a SNELL approved helmet (SA2005 or newer). It’s pretty much the same kind of inspection you would do on your car if you were preparing for a long road trip. I’ve never done anything like this… How do I get started? You’re doing it now! Visit our website forum at http://www.waterfordhills.com We have an OTD (Open Track Day) section where you will find lots of information on how to get started and what to expect. If you need additional info, please contact our staff at [email protected]

Sounds great – what does it cost and when can I play? It doesn’t cost as much as you would think… many motorsports events cost $ 40.00 or more for less than 10 minutes of seat time. You usually get four - 20 minute sessions at a Waterford Hills track day. That’s over an hour of seat time!
