Curious about Music Therapy for your child? What's the difference between the music classes at We Rock The Spectrum - Clarksville and the ones that take place at the MSMT clinic?
BOTH are fun! The music classes at WRTS are much, much more informal-- it is really NOT true music therapy, because I don't do assessments, I don't know exactly who/how many participants we may have, so I can't actively work on non-musical goals and objectives. What I CAN do is provide an easily-accessible music class that I can adapt on the fly for your child, so that their unique needs are met in the moment. Hopefully that will make for a good, relaxed experience for you both.
Music therapy at MSMT, even the single introductory groups, looks very similar to the music classes-- BUT-- it is clinical, in that participants fill out an intake form that I study before the group, so that I get a snapshot of your child even before we meet. This means that I can start developing a treatment plan (for long-term clients), and set the group up to start getting a baseline look at your child, like a roadmap that we use on the road to growth and progress.
So there is a place for both the casual and the clinical! :) YOU get to decide which you prefer. And it's not one or the other; you can have both. Heck, you can even have class, group AND individual therapy (yes, I've had people do that. :) ). Whatever you decide, if you have questions, I'm happy to answer them.
