We've had such a beautiful season of flowers here🙌💐
Thank you all SO much for coming and enjoying the flower field💚
And a big thank you to our friends and family for your support 👏

We have really enjoyed making new flower friends and getting to enjoy this beautiful place with you 🌸

There are several plans in the works to make things even bigger and better next year 👏
We will be hard at work getting the flower beds prepped for fall and winter, for a beautiful color explosion next year🌺🌻💐🌸🪷🏵🌹🌷🪻🌻🏵🌸🌈🎉

It's looking like this may be the last week that the flower field is open because of the frost sneaking up on us🥹🌬 🌸

So come on over to the flower farm and pick yourself a big bouquet if you haven't yet🙂 💐

I've been a little quiet on here lately....
It's easy to be overwhelmed with the tragedies of these past few days 💔
I do know that there is still light in the darkness, and good shining through.🌄

So many stories of people helping each other out, and individuals travelling to the disaster areas to rescue, or bring supplies, or donate 🩵

I'm grateful that we're still here.
I'm grateful to say that we're still open for business, and most of the flowers made it through 💚🌸

I made this flower delivery on Saturday, in the midst of the storm/rains/chaos of not having power, and chaos going on in our country.
It brings me joy to spread a little bit of hope and joy and beauty, in the form of flowers that I have planted and cared for all year. 💐

We'll be open for the next 2 or 3 weeks *depending on frost*
So come and enjoy the flowers while you can🙂
Order a bouquet, or just come and sit a while 🌸

Glory Hallelujer!🙌😄🥚
I can only tell you about the joy of seeing this lone lil egg, during molting season 🤪🪶🪶🪶

It has been quite a rambling journey with my chickies this year, the latest lesson being about molting.

Different breeds will take different amounts of time to molt, and while they do their egg production can slow a lot (or stop). They put their energy and protein into growing their feathers back.
Since mine were freshly new to laying, they had stopped for the last 3-4 weeks. Also I have several who were just getting ready to start laying, and then their molt/winter came.

Things you can do that will help them during this time-
🌻give them plenty of sunflower seeds and scratch
🥩 give them more protein
🌟 consider giving them more light (we are putting up a string of lights on a timer to give them just a little more)

I was so happy to see that egg sitting there glowing un the sunshine 😁 🌞 🥚

Homemade Ranch! 😁🌿
This should last at least a little while💁‍♀️🤣

Fresh chives, dill, garlic, and fresh squeezed lemon.
Buttermilk, heavy whipping cream, sour cream
A dash of white wine vinegar
Salt and pepper.
Shaken, not stirred.
(Jk🤪 but I did shake it up mostly in the jar, after the herbs were blended)

I measure everything to taste and what feels right🙂

It was a great day for......
Planting TULIPS! 😁👏💐🌷⚘️🌷💐

I had a cute helper today🙂

This one row will have multiple types of tulips, aliums, and a few daffodils. It will be the FIRST to bloom this coming spring, and I'm so excited to be able to offer fresh bouquets in time for Mother's Day😁👏💐

Cardboard, manure/compost, bulbs, compost/dirt, and mulch. 😳 shew🤪 It's a lot of work that will be worth it in the first moments of spring after this winter💚💐

On our farm, we stick to organic growing practices as much as possible. We are using the Back to Eden gardening method (no till/ lasagna/ mulch).
So that means for the past YEAR, nay--TWO YEARS! 🤪 I have been feverishly collecting cardboard and mulch😁👏 (thanks family💁‍♀️)

Mulching is a key component to this gardening style. You are essentially covering/smothering the unwanted weeds, while building up a healthy soil bed. It takes A LOT OF MULCH.😳

I have dreamt about mulch before. (For reals🤣) My husband literally woke up to me at 7AM TODAY talking to a tree service about their truck full of mulch I saw over the weekend 🤣
I. Need. All. The MULCH. 💁‍♀️👏

One thing we also have been doing is picking up huge batches of spent mash (malt) at a local brewery which we use as compost. (Also the chickies get to eat some too)
With as many things as I'm planting and various garden plots we will have this season, we need all the compost, poo, and mulch we can get👏

(PS-There is always a better way to do something 🙃 Normally you would cover the entire cardboard area with several inches of compost/poo, and then several inches of mulch. I also know that technically I should have let this malt compost before using it. In a perfect world, thats what I would have done. Also its a tad late to be planting garlic, but I aint a quitter, and I dont let things go to waste 🤣This is how I chose to do it, and I'm sharing so that you can see B2E gardening on a budget. I will add grass clippings and leaves to the rest of this spot and plant something else there in the spring. I do not have unlimited poo and compost and mulch right now. Hopefully some day🙂)

It's just so...peaceful 💚 There's got to be a better word for it, when your heart and soul and body feel at rest, and matching with your surroundings. The insects and birds were humming, the sun was tucked away behind the clouds, and I had just finished weeding this row.🏵 I am so grateful to live in such a beautiful place🌸🌅

The meaning behind The Emerald Well💚

I am looking forward to the day when we'll have a greenhouse (or 2🙃), but for now I use the space I have, as well as winter sow. I got brave and booted out my anemone sprouts, ranunculus, some brassicas, and some mint. I have several different rounds of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and...so many others🙂 I say brave because last year I lost a lot of seedlings TWICE to the great tiny greenhouse debacle of '23. Oy....so many lessons learned last year 😳🫠 And already this year too🤪 I have pretty much planted everything I could think of that would do ok with winter sowing outside, and will direct sow about a third of my flowers. The things that need heat and take a long time, I started inside. I've had something growing in here since the last week of January, and I'm so happy🌿💚🎉

Sooooo....it's looking like a used car lot up in here 🤣🤦‍♀️ There's been owls and hawks hanging around, and we need to do what we can to deter them. The hawk tape seems to be working well.
