The Clay City Lions Club has voted to disband after serving the Clay City community for 77 years.
Founded in 1947, the Clay City Lions Club was established to serve and improve the Clay City community. Historically, the Lions Club has been a strong proponent of vision and vision-related services. The Clay City chapter not only served in those capacities providing vision test to preschoolers and sponsoring eye glass exchanges, but also focused specifically on Clay City.
Over the years, the Lions Club has been instrumental in setting up natural gas service to Clay City, supporting Clay City Elementary and High Schools, and improving and supporting our local Goshorn Park and playground. Throughout the years, the club has always tried to abide by the Lions Club motto “We Serve”.
The Clay City Lions members have felt honored to be able to give back to the community in which they love. A huge thank you to all who have supported the Lions over the years as if it were not for you, our mission would not have been possible.
Looking forward, we ask that when you are feeling the need for a Jonah fish meal or a grilled chicken dinner on parade night, consider giving back to your community through other groups (Clay City Fair Board, Clay City USA, Nu Tu Yu, Clay City Food Pantry, Clay City Schools). It is only through people giving of their own free will, that our community improves and becomes better for everyone.
The Lions Club has made one last contribution to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation that will be matched 2-1. We encourage all of you to keep making our community a better place.
