December 4th is Cabernet Franc Day, and we’d like to toast to this delicious grape with our Wapiti Red, which is blend of Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

Cabernet Franc doesn’t get the recognition that Cabernet Sauvignon does, but without Cab Franc, they’d be no Cabernet Sauvignon. DNA analysis has established that Cabernet Franc is a “parent” grape of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carménère.

Whether with a blend like Wapiti or 100% Cabernet Franc, let’s toast to Cab Franc and all it has given to the wine industry. Cheers!

We offer so many wines that will perfectly pair with your Thanksgiving feast. Here are two staff favorites — our Reserve Sauvignon Blanc and Syrah — that go so well with turkey and all the trimmings.

Stop by between now and next Wednesday to pick up your favorites to share on Thanksgiving Day. The tasting room is open daily from 10:30 – 5, but we’ll be closed on Thanksgiving so we can celebrate with family and friends.

On Wednesday we shared a photo of our reserve line of wines. Today we want to share a photo of our other line of wines. These include whites, rosés, reds and a few white and red blends, too.

Back to the wine, our goal is to have almost every wine available for tasting in one or more of our tasting flights. Exceptions happen when we sell out of a wine. Or, if a wine is only available to Wine Club members, like our Malbec, then it’s not a part of a tasting flight, but always available for club members to try.

As we gear up for the holidays—and yes, they are only weeks away—it’s time to consider the wines to serve for Thanksgiving and December holiday gatherings.

Did you know Cache Creek has a line of reserve wines? We have two reserve sparkling wines (Celebration Rosé and Celebration Cuvée Blanc de Blanc), two whites (Reserve Sauvignon Blanc and Reserve Chardonnay), two reds (Majestic Elk, a red blend, and Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon), and a dessert wine (Elk in Velvet, a late harvest Petite Sirah).

This lineup gives you the perfect wine for every course from appetizers to dessert. If you’d like to try our reserve wines, you’re in luck. We offer a Reserve Tasting Flight daily, along with three other tasting flight options.

If you’re new to Cache Creek wines, the Classic Tasting Flight is the perfect way to experience our core wines and get a taste of what we offer. Currently, this tasting flight consists of our 2022 Sauvignon Blanc, 2022 Chardonnay, 2020 Syrah, 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon and 2019 Petite Sirah.

We also offer a whites and rosés only flight, an all-red tasting flight and a reserve tasting flight, so we have something for everyone’s preference.

If you need a little more encouragement, here’s the list of awards this flight of wines has won to date:
2022 Sauvignon Blanc — Silver Medal
2020 Syrah — 3 Silver Medals

Do you love Bordeaux varietals and blends? We’ve got several wines that fit this category, so for today’s let’s explore a few of them.

The Bordeaux region of France is renowned for its red wines. According to French wine guidelines/laws, a Bordeaux red wine must include one or more of the following varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec or Petit Verdot.

At Cache Creek, we make seven different Bordeaux varietals or blended wines—two in our reserve line and five in our new colorful Tule elk head line.

In the Tule elk head line, we produce Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot as single varietals, and two blends — Bugle Call and Wapiti Red.

The next time you want to sip a delicious Bordeaux varietal or blend, come on by. We’ve got you covered!

It’s back!

Our 2022 Sauvignon Blanc is now on our wine menu in the Classic Tasting Flight and available for sale as of this afternoon.

Always a favorite, we don’t expect this wine will stick around for long. Be sure to come by soon to taste it, or just put in an order online or call our tasting room, before it’s sold out.

Happy ! We’re going to explore another of our blends and see how it pairs up with Halloween candy.

Sunset on the Vine is our off-dry white blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscat, which adds a lovely floral essence to the wine. Although this is a great summertime wine, we find it’s the perfect sipping wine all year round.

Sunset on the Vine goes beautifully with candy corn (a perennial Halloween favorite), it is also lovely to sip while savoring just about anything from the candy store. What’s your favorite Cache Creek wine and Halloween candy pairing?

Hey, It’s !

The spotlight today is on our newly released 2020 Majestic Elk. This is a delicious blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc, 20% Petit Verdot and 10% Malbec.

As soon as we released this beauty, it received the following accolades:
97 points
BEST OF CLASS
DOUBLE GOLD Medal
Best of Lake County AVA

If that doesn’t tempt you to try it, here’s our tasting note:
The nose offers layers of tempting aromas of rich cassis and brambly blackberry woven with hints of spicy cedar, to***co and toasty oak. From the first sip, the palate is filled with mouthwatering yet plush flavors — Bing cherry, boysenberry, black raspberry, red currant and dark plum — laced with a lovely minerally saline essence. Traces of leather and loamy earth add interest while integrated mocha-tinged oak and bright acidity lend balance and depth. As the flavors fuse and linger, you start to long for the next sip.
Enjoy this gorgeous wine with herb-crusted pork tenderloin with red currant sauce, or braised short ribs in a Cabernet reduction sauce served over garlic-infused mashed potatoes.

Harvest 2023 at Cache Creek Vineyards has concluded.

Here are some final photos from a few different pickings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec and Petit Verdot.

As the weather has cooled, we were able to do some daytime harvesting as well. We are so grateful to have such an amazing vineyard crew!

And, you’ll see we’re already teaching the next generation about harvesting grapes.

Last week we shared Bugle Call, a delicious red blend. This week, we thought it would be fun to explore another of our red blends – meet Wapiti.

Wapiti, the Native American word for elk, is a blend of our estate-grown Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, with Malbec being over 60% of the blend.

2019 was our first vintage of Wapiti, and it has received rave reviews from everyone who tries it. This vintage is getting dangerously low, so if you want to enjoy this party-in-your-mouth experience, come taste the wine soon. It’s available as part of our Red Lover’s Tasting Flight and by the glass.

Here are our tasting notes and suggested food pairings:
Enticing aromatics of mocha and vanillin oak fuse with ripe brambly blackberry and dusty dark cherry to compel the first sip. And then you’re hooked. The palate is bathed with integrated oak, polished tannins and an opulent blend of luscious flavors. The velvety mouthfeel reveals the essence of blackberry preserves and cherry pie à la mode laced with hints of kid glove leather, fine herbs and caramel. A trace of brightness appears in the expansive finish to lighten the delicious dark flavors and urge you to sip again.

This blend is wonderful to sip solo, but will also seamlessly pair with grilled ribeye basted with butter and Worcestershire sauce, or an herb-encrusted rack of lamb.

In the coming weeks, we’re going to share some fun facts about a few of our wines. This week the focus is on Bugle Call, a delicious blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Grenache.

Since its release, the 2019 Bugle Call has been awarded the following:
• 95 points
• 90 points
• Double Gold Medal

If you haven’t yet tasted this beauty, we recommend you stop by the tasting room soon to try it, or order it online. But, don’t wait too long for we’re getting low on this vintage.

Here are the tasting notes:
Our proprietary blend showcases the depth and structure of the 2019 vintage. Dusty oak and herbal notes join inviting aromas of dark red and black fruit, enhancing the wine’s appeal. A rich, fruit-forward entry offers a delicious blend of black raspberry, blueberry, blackberry, and boysenberry. Mid-palate buoyant acidity and bright flavors of Bing cherry and red currant appear and mingle with hints of brown spices, dusty tannins, mocha, and vanillin oak. A robust structure holds a firm grip on the luscious flavors, but a few more months of bottle aging will allow the structure to take a step back and let the flavors shine.

Enjoy with a hearty pairing of tri-tip and twice-baked potatoes, or braised short ribs served over creamy polenta.

This Sunday, October 1st, we’ll be hosting the KPFZ Lake County Community Radio’s memorial benefit concert for longtime radio personality Ron Green. Gates will open at 1:00 and the music will start at 1:30.
This free outdoor concert, featuring the Andre Williams Band and Beatz Werkin, is a memorial and celebration of Green’s life. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and have their dancing shoes on.
La Chilanguita Mexican Restaurant will have food available for purchase, and our tasting room will be open for attendees to purchase wine.
Although our tasting room will be open for those attending the memorial concert, we won’t be able to host regular tasters on Sunday. Thanks for your understanding.

Time to share some more harvest photos. These were taken on Sept. 18th while the crew picked our Cabernet Franc.
We grow Cab Franc, a Bordeaux varietal, to blend with some of our other wines. As a blending wine, it adds savory qualities along with red fruit flavors.

Last night was the perfect end to our first season of Tastes, Tunes & Trucks. A huge thank you to all the locals who came out to celebrate the end of summer, the beginning of fall, and just because they wanted to have a great time.

Thank you to the Funky Dozen for providing us with a night of fabulous tunes and endless dancing music. And, to Big Earl’s BBQ for absolutely delicious food that was met with one rave review after another!

Although our stage will be silent for a few months, rest assured the music will return again next year. Get ready for the 2024 Summer Concert Series, and an encore of Tastes, Tunes & Trucks — Friday night for locals.

A big thank you to all the folks who came out last night for Tastes, Tunes & Trucks — Friday Night for Locals. It was an exceptional night, and we’re doing it again next Friday night!

A big thank you to Decades, who everyone just loved. Folks were up and dancing from the first note to the last lingering sound.

And also, a very special thank you to everyone at I Love BLT's aka Badass B.L.T.’s for providing such fabulous food. All their food sold out, and we say a bittersweet farewell to these guys for this was their very last gig. The business is now closed, and they are off to their next adventure. They will be missed.
