To our amazing volunteers: you were the magic behind the curtain! Thank you for your time, creativity, and heart — from setting up to striking down, you kept the show running smoothly.

To our attendees: you brought the sparkle, the style, and the energy! Watching you dance, laugh, and make memories reminded us exactly why we do this.

That’s a Wrap on the Black History Month Cabaret!

What an unforgettable night! We laughed, we cried, and we celebrated the rich legacy of Black theatre through music, storytelling, and powerful performances. The stage was alive with talent, passion, and purpose, reminding us why these stories matter and deserve to be told.

A huge thank you to every performer who shared their gifts, to the audience who showed up with energy and support, and to everyone behind the scenes who made this event possible. Special thanks to Trey for running sound, the Barrus boys for lighting, and Plaza Theatre for the equipment—we couldn’t have done it without you!

Introducing Janae and Ayden Chatman—a talented sibling duo ready to light up the stage at this year’s cabaret! 🎭✨

Janae, a student at Santa Fe Elementary, is a cheerleader, actress, singer, and dancer. She draws inspiration from Jazzlyn, who has mentored her since she joined Plaza Theatre, saying, “She’s been my inspiration, and I look up to her.”

Ayden, a 6th grader at Smith Intermediate School, is a baseball player with a knack for making people laugh. He looks up to his brother, Arthur, who inspires him to reach for his goals.

Outside of academics, he enjoys immersing himself in school activities and embracing every opportunity to learn and grow. When it comes to inspiration, Ben looks up to Jacquel Spivey, a Broadway star who not only shares his talent but also represents the success and visibility he aspires to achieve. Seeing someone who looks like him and shares his energy thriving on Broadway fuels his own dreams and determination.

Meet Elijah Poole, the creative mind behind the artistic direction for this year’s Black History Month Cabaret!

Elijah is a student at Cleburne High School and a passionate theatre performer, involved with Plaza Theatre, Granbury Theatre Company, Theatre Off The Square in Weatherford, and his school’s theatre program. When he’s not on stage, he enjoys running, football, and video games.

He draws inspiration from Mykal Kilgore and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., two figures who have shaped both the arts and history in powerful ways.
