ICYMI - Willow Tree Planning is now offering virtual assistant services!

What does this even mean? Well, as a former wedding professional, I have the background knowledge in the wedding industry to help wedding professionals with all the behind the scenes tasks they need to get done.

Certain things can take a backseat (blogging, am I right?) while you focus on the things that are due now! It can be a struggle to do all the things, help all the couples, maintain a growing business, AND drink all your water!

I want to be able to take some of those "bottom of the to do list" tasks off your plate so that you have the capacity to function at 100% for the things that you are passionate about and love!

If you would like to know more about how I can help your growing business, please click the link in my bio to schedule a call!

Back in November 2022, we did a blog post (https://willowtree-planning.com/blogs/f/new-year-new-trend) about the upcoming 2023 wedding trends. I love to take a look back and see how it all played out!

The Bridal Dress: While we have seen a lot more bridal dresses with more feminine details like tulle bows, sleeves, and lots of lace, the traditional white wedding dress reigns supreme! Several bridal fashion designers had lines of dresses that featured pops of pastels. We've mainly seen this represented in the florals.

LA Weekend Weddings: We have seen a few weddings that have lasted all weekend. With out of town guests to extra setup and clean-up time, bridal couples have opted to start festivities on Friday and check-out on Sunday.

Ceremony: It is pretty 50/50 on intimate guest count versus full wedding invites. However, we have seen tons of blended bridal parties ("Mates of Honor," "Groomsmaids," and doggie ring bearers)! Such a fun way to incorporate your loved ones!

Reception: As mentioned earlier, floral statements are the main pop of color, utilizing lots of those pastel colors. We've seen a lot of whimsical, garden party type weddings. Bridal couples are in fact wanting to cater the whole experience for their guests and have made sure their wedding is an event to remember!

All in all, when you think about planning your wedding, it should be a representation of the love you share with your significant other! While including your guests and finding a trend you love, make sure that you don't deviate from who you both are as a couple! You want to look back on your wedding day with love, adoration, and smiles!

What trends have you loved or hated or included in your own wedding? Comment below to let us know!

Don’t forget to include your wedding vows into your planning sessions!

Decide if you’d like to go with traditional vows or writing your own. This is something you should talk about with your significant other and your officiant!

If you choose to write your own, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to do so! We generally recommend starting about two months out from your wedding date and being finished at least two weeks before your wedding date!

You will also need to decide if these vows will be said in a private first look moment or during the ceremony with all your guests as witnesses!

As time goes on, we can see the trends changing. And a lot of the time, resurfacing to trend again! One of those being the wedding bands.

Straying away from the traditional smooth plain bands, people are going for some more elaborate rings. Groom's are also opting for more elaborate styles and including multiple elements (wood and metal, adding gems, engravings).

The Romans and Greeks utilized copper and gold wedding bands. Those metals were most popular in the late 1800s and yellow gold continued to be the most common throughout the 60s, and 70s.

Platinum was also in the running as that metal was denser and stronger.

There are so many options to choose from now, definitely do some research and find what fits your personality the best.

As we’ve just come off a long season of using reds, greens, and blues for florals and decor, you may be wanting to use some different colors for your wedding!

Some really nice options to consider for color palettes are pastel adding lots of different variety. Peaches, baby blues, pale greens, lavender, and gray can add some really beautiful dimensions to your wedding colors and produce phenomenal photos!

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Historically, this day is to celebrate the life and influence of St. Patrick himself, who died on March 17th. The general celebration is largely religious as a way to celebrate that fact that St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland. St. Patrick is also credited with driving snakes out of Ireland (even though they didn’t inhabit the region in the first place 😂).

Let’s throw on some green today and join the celebration! And if not, that’s cool, too!

An officiant is the person that leads your wedding ceremony - essentially the person marrying you.

There are several ways that you can chose this special person:

➡️ A religious figure in your life (youth/church pastor, rabbi, or minister)
➡️ A legally ordained family member or friend
➡️ A judge or chancellor
➡️ Current or former members of the county legislature (think governors or mayors)

If none of these ideas are within your scope or you would rather go with someone established, head over to and talk to any of their officiants. They are all amazing!

Happy Valentine’s Day Eve everyone!

This day is really quite historic going all the way back to St. Valentine and the celebration of the martyr with a feast on February 14th.

Nowadays, we celebrate love and those we love on this day. So, take the day and let those you love know how much you appreciate them!

When we think of Valentine’s Day we think of a romantic dinner out, but making date nights a priority during the wedding planning season is just as important!

It is extremely easy to get distracted in the midst of wedding planning, and especially if you have a long engagement - the initial excitement and feelings can wear off.

Prioritize date nights where you don’t talk about anything wedding related. It can really help you to keep the connection going and make sure that you’re not just only talking about wedding stuff all the time.

This is also good practice so that you can carry this habit on after you are married! A wedding is just a day; a marriage is a lifetime.

Did you know that historically February is known as National Wedding Month? It’s the perfect month to be celebrating love!

It’s still considered a winter wedding, but creating cozy and romantic themes are perfect for whatever type of wedding you chose!

Bright and bold? Absolutely - use reds, blues, pinks, and purples!
More subtle and neutral? Go with champagne, gray, and greens!

There’s no end to the possibilities with a February wedding.

What color or theme would you choose if you had a February? Let us know in the comments below!!

I have had bridal couples ask me what their parents need to wear for the wedding. Should they match each other? Should they match the bridal party? What is the traditional way?

Ultimately, it’s all up to you! You can let them be flexible and decide for themselves. A recent popular opinion is to have them in similar colors to the wedding party, but in darker tones. My personal favorite is to choose a specific color (maybe one from your wedding colors) for them and let them dress in different shades of it.

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it a billion times: while there are traditions for weddings, present day, it’s really all about what the bridal couple wants to do! It’s your day, so let the day show that!

Typically when you think of weddings, you think of couples that are in their 20s or 30s, but what about weddings for older couples?

There are no limits to what you can do with a wedding even as an older couple. If you have a dream wedding in mind, absolutely go for it! (Vow renewals are a thing, too!) 💍

If you’re not sure where to start, here are some tips!

💍 Have a small intimate ceremony, but a large reception or party later on.

💍 Go with a destination wedding! Invite people and then send them home while you stay and enjoy the scenery!

💍 Elopements are very popular as well, so keep it small and just go big with the decor, florals, and catering!

Whatever your age or wedding dreams, let's chat! Tell us all your wedding ideas in the comments below!

Let’s talk about something that’s not always at the top of the list when it comes to planning a wedding:

Insurance.

Wedding insurance is extremely important, and most, if not all, wedding venues require it. It protects you, your guests, and your vendors. Sometimes you need certain types of insurance depending on if you’re having a dry wedding or not, and some of your other vendors may have insurance requirements. Be sure to check with all of them and see about getting a policy that covers it all in one go!

If this is on your list of to-do’s, I suggest checking with you insurance company that you use already (home, renter’s, vehicle) to see if they have a special connection or a discount with another company.

The internet is a great place to find info on all topics. You find research, opinions, reviews to back any standpoint from both sides. Literally.

What typically persuades me is first-hand experience. From where I stand on wedding days, I can see a fuller picture. I know what is happening, where everyone is, and have the master timeline for the day. Cue Amanda Bynes in “She’s the Man” saying, “I got a lifetime of knowledge!” 🤣

I have picked up on a few things about wedding days and I would like to share them with you!

✅ Hope for the best, plan for the worst. Winston Churchill said, “He who fails to plan is planning to fail.” Having options and back-up plans is never not a good idea. As your wedding coordinator, nine times out of ten, I won’t tell you, I will just fix it. There was a pickup snafu with linens for a wedding this past October and I didn’t tell the bride (one - because it was the day before her wedding and two - I could fix it no problem). But the linen company felt bad and gave her a few gift cards as an apology. It was funny to hand those to her because she didn’t know.

✅ Time will fly. Whether it is the morning for getting ready, your ceremony, or the night until send-off, all of it tends to be a whirlwind blur. Remember to take deep breaths throughout the day to take everything in! Take time to take mental snapshots and just live in the moment of all the excitement and love flowing through the day. You won’t get these moments back!

✅ Find time to eat, even if it is just a snack. I know everyone gets nervous and only consuming caffeine can create a jitter effect. No one wants you up at the altar with shaky knees about to pass out. I always encourage brides to either delegate someone to bring brunch or lunch for each side of the wedding party or I offer to pick up subs or Chic-fil-a. I will also make you sit down for dinner and eat. Food is one of my love languages, okay?!

Would you add anything to the list? I’d love to know in the comments below!

A common question I have been asked a lot lately has been: "When do I send out my wedding invitations?"

Wedding invitations, not to be confused with save-the-dates (which are typically sent out four to six months before the wedding), are the ones that hold all the important information. They let your guests know where, what time, and a little about what to expect.

It is standard etiquette to send out invitations six to eight weeks prior to the wedding.

However, if you’ve decided to save the budget a bit and forgo the save-the-date’s you can always bump up the invitation timeline a little bit to help fill the gap!

The BIGGEST LESSONS I've learned as a wedding planner are...

As you know, I've been coordinating weddings for a couple years now. I've learned a LOT of things that can surely be useful in helping you plan a magical wedding.

Those lessons are :
👉🏻 While DIY might be cheaper, it’s not always easier. Where DIY is less money, it is always more time.
👉🏻 Getting friends to do the job is risky and doesn’t always work out. Unpaid people don’t always do the best job because they figure what they are doing already is good enough.
👉🏻 More guests equal more money. I get it - you want to invite everyone to celebrate. But you have to be mindful if you are working within the parameters of a budget.

Because of these lessons, I have worked hard to put together cost effective strategies to planning your wedding!

So that you'll still be able to have a magical wedding and avoid looking like a Pinterest fail!

If you want a better way to plan, you can book a consult with me!
Consultations are always FREE!

01/09/2023

Intimate weddings aren't always easy, especially if the venue is smaller. If you end up with a small space, don't stress! There are plenty of ways to maximize a venue's space to work best for your needs.

DO AWAY WITH:
❌ Clutter; it makes the room feel even smaller and stuffy.
❌ Crowded floor plan. Adjust the floor plan to allow the most space for guests to move around freely.
❌ Furniture that is too close together or curtain dividers (drapery); these things can make a small space seem even smaller.
❌ Ceiling attachments. You don't want to bring attention to the ceiling. Light fixtures that hang too low can also shorten the space of a venue, so make sure to ask the venue if those are hanging at an appropriate level or if they can be adjusted.
❌ Rectangular or square tables. When choosing furniture, opt for round tables instead of square or rectangular ones. Round tables not only seat more people, but they also allow for more decorating options. Use table cloths with one color or ones without loud or eccentric designs.

With that said, try to keep wall decor at a minimum, and focus on clean lines. Focus your color scheme on white hues and light colors to keep the atmosphere light and airy.

So, the REAL reason why I want to help you? Some might think that it's only for the money. Well, I'm a human being so of course I need money. But the thing is, I can get money from elsewhere.
So no, that's not the real reason.
The real reason why I want to help you with my services is because I know how you FEEL. I know what it's like to be stressed out planning a wedding on a tight budget. I know what it's like to have a big dream and want to achieve it so bad... but sometimes we don't know how to.
I’ve mentioned before my wedding story, how I had limited funds, and how my mom was the best at knocking stuff off our planning list.
That's why I become a wedding coordinator.
To help you achieve that dream. To help alleviate your stress where I can. To help guide you in your planning journey and give you pro tips.
I'm a wedding professional not because I desperately need cash.
But because I really BELIEVE that I can help you achieve your wedding goals.
If you think I can help you out with your dreams, let's have a chat in my DM.
No, I will not sell you anything. I just want to help! ❤️

01/03/2023

While I have shared a mini biography on Willow Tree Planning’s website and shared my own story about being a “budget bride,” I am not quite sure that I have shared the story of how Willow Tree Planning came to be. With a new year of fresh beginnings ahead, I think now is a good time to share it.

After I successfully helped plan and coordinate my first wedding, I felt over the moon! I felt like I had finally found a way to use my skills in a way that was both productive and creative, but also helpful. After being a full time stay-at-home mom, it felt good to get out and stretch out that part of my brain.

My husband had been really supportive of me starting my own small business. As someone who is not a risk taker, I needed everything to be perfect to start. That started with a company name. And I could not think of one! I am a little into symbolism and meaning behind words. So, I wanted something *profound*.

As I was driving and listening to “Willow” by Taylor Swift, it hit!

🎶“Life’s like a willow and it bent right to your wind.” 🎶

Life is full of compromises, especially when you are married. But like a willow tree, a happy lasting marriage has to have strong roots, firmly planted in the ground. Symbolism, seeee? 😂

As a wedding planner/coordinator, I want my bridal couples to know that I value them, I pray blessings over their marriages, and I am rooting for them way past the wedding day.

Friends! Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a fun, safe time celebrating the New Year. Let us know in the comments belo...
