Ben + Liz

Lizuait’s story is one of sacrifice, perseverance, and unconditional love that deserves recognition and celebration. Despite facing setbacks and fears of change, she fought bravely with the support of her family. With determination and grace, Liz defied expectations by continuing to lead a full life despite her illness.

Along the way, Liz met Ben, who stood by her side through thick and thin, showing unwavering love and support. Their bond grew stronger as they faced obstacles together, proving that true love knows no bounds.

In the words of Lao Tzu: “Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” Ben and Liz’s love story is a beautiful reminder that true love conquers all obstacles.

Do you know someone who has battled life-threatening diseases, served as a first responder or veteran, lives with disabilities, or has overcome significant obstacles? We want to hear their inspiring stories of hope and perseverance.

Meet Our 2023 Give Love Wedding Winners: Lizuait & Ben

Their story as submitted by Liz's sister:

From a young age, Lizuait (or Liz, as we fondly call her) has always been a beacon of light in our lives. Whether as a daughter, sister, friend, or colleague, she has touched countless hearts with her big heart and boundless energy. Liz is the kind of person who sets her goals high and pursues them with passion and grace. However, life threw an unexpected curveball her way in 2017.

In 2017, Liz began experiencing severe health issues. After multiple tests, doctors diagnosed her with stage 4 severe chronic rheumatoid arthritis. This diagnosis marked the beginning of a challenging health journey filled with physical, emotional, and mental battles. Liz went from being physically independent to struggling with simple tasks like getting out of bed or brushing her hair.

The impact of this diagnosis was profound. Liz had to give up many activities she loved, making it increasingly difficult for her to work, attend church, and even drive. Our family was heartbroken, watching her spirit wane as she grappled with the limitations imposed by her condition. Despite these challenges, Liz's determination never wavered.

Liz’s condition not only affected her physically but also took a toll on her emotionally. She had always been a pillar of support for our family, especially during our father’s battle with kidney cancer. Liz financially supported our family, ensuring our home was secure and our father received the necessary care. When our father recovered, we felt immense relief and gratitude.

However, just two years later, Liz found herself facing her own health crisis. The emotional burden of her illness was heavy, and she feared losing the dreams she had worked so hard to achieve. Yet, through it all, Liz continued to work full-time, lead her youth group, and volunteer for the community. Her spirit of resilience shone through the darkest days, inspiring everyone around her.

In 2019, amidst her health struggles, Liz met Ben at a work function. Their connection was instant, and they quickly became close friends. Ben saw beyond Liz’s condition and embraced her for who she truly was. He educated himself about her illness and dedicated himself to supporting her through every challenge.

Ben’s love and dedication were nothing short of extraordinary. He focused on uplifting Liz, giving her hope and strength during the toughest moments. Their relationship blossomed, and Ben’s unwavering support became a source of immense gratitude for our family.

By July 2020, Ben asked our parents for Liz’s hand in marriage, and they began planning their wedding. Unfortunately, our father's passing due to COVID-19 in late October 2021 put a halt to their plans. Liz and Ben used their savings to ensure our father received a proper burial, demonstrating their selflessness and love for our family.

The loss of our father took a toll on Liz’s health, leading to one of the worst flare-ups of her condition. She had to use a wheelchair for a period and eventually left her job of 12 years to focus on her health and new treatments. This transition was difficult for Liz, but Ben’s support remained steadfast. He covered her financial and medical responsibilities, showing us all the true meaning of love and commitment.

Liz is currently recovering at home and showing progress with each passing day. Ben continues to work and care for her, embodying the essence of true love. Their story is a powerful reminder that better things often come after the storm.

We are so thankful we were able to be a small part of their special day!

Why Does Easter Matter?

The resurrection vindicates Good Friday, Jesus’ death. His death really did cover the sins of his people.

And I would say: One, it means my sins are forgiven, because Paul said in 1 Corinthians 15:17 that if Christ was not raised, we are still in our sins. This implies that if he is raised, our sin problem is over. And that is because the resurrection vindicates the event of Good Friday, namely his death. His death really did cover the sins of his people. It really did provide a perfect righteousness for us.
