This July 4, I learned a really interesting and uniquely American reason why we have videogames today.
In 1945 around Independence Day, one man, USA Secretary of War Henry Stimson, disagreed with literally everyone about one particular target for the Atomic Bomb.
If not for him, our relationship to Japan - - and later the very existence of videogames today - - would be non-existent, at best.
I wrote a longer version of this at Gamesdonelegit.com/blog if you're interested in my family connection to this story!
Happy #independenceday!
Not that I ever expected to be doing videogame entertainment as a kid, but I certainly NEVER thought I'd be using Lethal Enforcers, one of the most "violent" Super Nintendo games ever, one day at a teen party!
Having fun at Gabriel and Luke's Grad Party with our Duck Hunt / lightgun arcade cabinet and my Pac-Man / Galaga 2P Japanese sit-down :)

Let there be light!
My Duck Hunt (converted from a Street Fighter II) arcade cab still had the marquee fixture and light, so I wired it into a normal plug today and it still works!
Nothing beats the warm glow of these old old bulbs!
Always love working on these vintage things and helping new people enjoy them in their second life as GDL attractions :)

Warning: When playing Beat Saber at a formal event, being a spare shirt just in case!
People still go crazy for Beat Saber, whether we have it on a giant 24-foot screen or something that'll for anywhere!

One of the parts I love about retrogames is finding new ways to experience something you've loved since you were a kid ;)
Got the expansion audio working on my decked-out personal NES. Really nice to hear FDS Zelda, even if it's just the title screens, with a thumping bass/clarity mod!
Kids are at Grandma's house until our lunch cookout so a fun way to start my Memorial Day ;) hope you have a good one!

Everyone loves an '80s theme, whether you were born in the decade or not. Neon, Xanadu, big hair, and Nintendo!
Thank you QLab for bringing us back for Holiday Party 2023! #videogames #rockband #corporateevents #MakeItFun
More great stuff from our Orange HS Homecoming Dance last week! Thank you to the school PTA and @clemusicgrp for having us back to entertain the kids!
We had Arcade Racing, a popular console games, and a Just Dance Floor in the lobby too. Was really happy I could be there in person this year!

An injured leg did not stop this intrepid young lady from rocking Beat Saber and all the other cool active games we had at this grad party last night!
Videogames always let me do things that I, a fearful and shy kid, could not do in "real" life.
It amazes how how a part of mainstream culture gaming is now! Had a great time seeing all these teens and kids have an awesome time together with the Xboxes, Playstations, and even original Nintendo + CRT we brought! :)

Amazing show from @bitbrigade & @superguitarbros last night!
I first heard a videogame cover band in 2000 and finally I saw one live! Keep it up guys!!
Really needed this after a great (but very very tough) week of events! #retrogaming #gamemusic
When I feel depressed about things out of my immediate control, the characters in my favorite videogames remind me that things are never hopeless and we all have the ability to make the world better.
And also sometimes I just need a laugh. #masseffect #gamingforgood
It's Monday morn ... after our baby cried inconsolably from midnight to 3:30 a.m. #ParentsAgain #ThereThere #NeedANapAlready

It's almost SPRING! 🌞🌻
After a long Ohio pandemicky winter, if that's not a good excuse for a party, I don't know what is :) #retrogaming #VR #special events #party #MakeItFUN
Pretty awesome to see kids this into NBA Jam (2K21 edition)! I figured but you never know :)
Great being back for family night at Wade Park Elementary!
Also a kid asked me if I was 51, hahaha!
