"The “Suite For Africa, Parts 1 through 3″—”Spirit Africa, Spirit Liberia,” “Fifteen As One” and “Forgotten Children”— feature the 24-voice choir. The joy and innocence, the youthful exuberance and the obvious zest for the task at hand are up front, bubbling with an embrace of life, despite the less-than-optimum life circumstances. Combined with Figarova’s sextet and the adventuresome playing all around, the music exhibits a joyous and spellbinding listening experience." - Dan McClenaghan for All about Jazz

🎹 and Amina Figarova is bringing her sextet with the Matsiko World Orphan Choir - International Children's Network to Cuyahoga Community College Auditorium on October 16 at 7:30 p.m. For details and to purchase tickets 🎟, click here: https://bit.ly/4d3sNfJ.

born and Amina Figarova was inspired to write her "Suite for Africa" while meeting students in South Africa. A travel mishap placed her on the same flight as the Matsiko World Orphan Choir - International Children's Network, an ensemble of at-risk children, and a stirring piece was brought to life.

The World Orphan Choir uses music in its mission to turn the pain of hunger and hopelessness into personal empowerment. In addition to the Choir, Figarova will be joined by her stellar sextet. The performance is October 16 at Cuyahoga Community College Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. For details and to purchase tickets click here: https://bit.ly/4d3sNfJ.

Excellent review of our Jazz Gallery All-Stars concert earlier this month. We hope you'll consider joining us for our next event! Check www.tri-c.edu/performingarts for more.

"The skipping, syncopated melody of "Strasbourg St. Denis" ended the program, one of the evening's two compositions by Gallery co-founder Roy Hargrove. It's joyous, light-footed line, an earworm that, like this concert of high-level music, brought the freshness and hope of spring."
