ATTENTION, WRITERS! Deadline for entering Books on the Bosque’s 3rd Annual Writing Contest is Friday, September 20, at 5 p.m. Two divisions: High School and Open.

Cash prizes of $3,800 available, including $1,000 Jones Best of the West Award in the open division. The award will go to the most original work in any category that pays homage to the values of faith, hard work, and perseverance—the Spirit of the West—exemplified in the pioneer days through modern-day ranchers and farmers.

Work will be accepted in the genres of short story, narrative nonfiction essay, and poetry (rhymed/unrhymed). Cash prizes of $300, $200, & $100 will go to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in each category of the open division.

High school prizes will be awarded across prose (short story and essay) and poetry categories: First place $275; second place $150, and third place $75.

LITERARY CONFERENCE AND AWARDS CEREMONY: NOVEMBER 9. Conference admission $30--continental breakfast and lunch included.

Ticket sales close soon for the opening night dinner, sale, & awards ceremony on September 14 at the Bosque Arts Center in Clifton, TX. Tickets are $65; purchase online at www.BosqueArtsCenter.org or call 254-675-3724.

ONLINE SALE: After opening weekend sales, pieces become available online Monday, September 16 – Saturday, September 28. The free public exhibition runs September 15-28.

SONGWRITER UPDATE: The Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic deadline has been extended through Tuesday, September 3.

Former Statler Brothers tenor Jimmy Fortune will serve as headliner and judge for the 11th annual event at the Bosque Arts Center in Clifton, Texas. The country music contest awards $3,000 total: $1,000 Song of the Year Award, $1,500 Texas Troubadour live performance award, and $500 People’s Choice Award.

Fortune will judge mp3 entries for the Song of the Year category, then on October 26 perform a concert with his band after judging the 5 finalists in the Texas Troubadour live event in Clifton.

The online gallery is now ready! Preview the art in the 39th Annual Bosque Art Classic at www.BosqueArtsCenter.org. Make plans to attend the Tin Building Theatre Rising Stars production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid Jr.” Performances will be on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, August 1, 2, 3 and 4. Thursday - Friday are evening performances starting at 7:00 p.m. Saturday - Sunday are afternoon performances at 3:00 p.m.

Calling all songwriters & singer/songwriters! We are thrilled to announce singer/songwriter Jimmy Fortune as headliner and judge for the 2024 Texas Troubadour Songwriter Classic. The former Statler Brothers tenor will judge mp3 entries in the Song of the Year category at the end of the summer, then perform with his quartet after judging the finalists in the Texas Troubadour live event October 26.

Entry deadline for the Songwriter Classic is August 20, 2024. The two-part contest is open to country music songwriters and singer/songwriters with $3,000 in awards available: $1,000 for the Song of the Year (based on mp3 song submissions and lyrics); $1,500 and $500 for the Texas Troubadour and People’s Choice awards, respectively, in the live performance category.

The Jones Memorial Gallery of the Bosque Arts Center will be closed through July and August for lighting upgrades. The gallery will re-open for kick-off night of the Bosque Art Classic in September.
