The Lorenzo Cultural Center is proud to present, “We are Coming, Father Abram: Michigan in the Civil War," a talk that steps back in time to explore Michigan’s key role in the Civil War! The First Michigan Volunteer Infantry Regiment arrived at the nation's capital soon after Michiganders learned that southerners attempted secession, firing on the U.S. flag flying over Fort Sumter in the Charleston, South Carolina, harbor. From then on, more than 90,000 Michiganders served in Union blue, seeing action in all the war’s major battles and hundreds of lesser clashes. Listen to Roger Rosentreter, esteemed history professor from Michigan State University, who will delve into Michigan’s unique contributions during this tumultuous period. From major battles to countless skirmishes, Michiganders stood firm in their duty to a free and fraternal government.
