Sadly, today we lost a dear friend, former co-worker and florist extraordinaire. Sharon Southard was co-owner and operator of The Greenery Flower Shop in Windsor for many years until fire destroyed the shop in 1999. Sharon was a floral designer at Clinton Flower Shop for 8 years sharing her love of flowers and her talent as a floral designer. Sharon always had a smile and a cheerful disposition and was a delight to work with. Sharon is the last of the florist around from when I began 30 years ago. I was honored two weeks ago to visit Sharon at her home in Windsor, shared some memories and laughs. There was a great reunion this morning when Sharon showed up, Roberta, Helen, Rosemary, Mary, Juanita, and many more. Rest in peace my friend.

Today we remember our lost brother Gary Michael. Gary was feloniously killed when he was ambushed while conducting a traffic stop. Despite being mortally wounded, Gary managed to exchange gunfire with his assailant, wounding the man. It was later determined that the suspect was expecting a warrant for his arrest on unrelated charges and had been planning an assault on police officers. Gary's decisive actions that night were not enough to save his own life, unfortunately, but he made it impossible for the suspect to harm anyone else.

Gary grew up in Clinton and the surrounding area and had long wanted to be a Clinton Police Officer. He loved his community and loved to serve his community. His loss was great, but his legacy is greater. His dedication, love, courage and sacrifice still inspire us to be the very best guardians we can possibly be.
