Pretty things are clear enough, but beauty takes a little time to see. I’ve had some good pictures from this spot but never has the light been so good, nor the breeze just so. I am thankful to have found what I was looking for.
This is video from our mobile app that allows guests to view the cabins of the African American who were enslaved here. This test of the app follows a rebuilding, then adding furniture and tools. Furniture was rarely provided to enslaved African Americans beyond a cast iron pot so most would have been made using found materials.

This is video from our mobile app that allows guests to view the cabins of the Africans Americans who were enslaved here. This test follows rebuilding, then adding furniture and tools. Furniture was rarely provided to enslaved African Americans, beyond a cast iron pot, so most was hand made using found materials.
At the time of the Civil War, there were about 70 enslaved African Americans that lived at “Wyoming,” in addition to the prestigious Marbury family. Their impermanent housing was most likely single family style, similar to this model, as barracks style housing was abandoned following the cessation of importing enslaved African Americans to the area around 1775. If a family of seven could tightly fit in this structure, there would still be nine more structures like this across the farm. We hope viewing the structures through this mixed reality mobile app will help viewers understand American history in a new way.

Augmented reality uses virtual graphics shown in the real world. Mixed reality is different because it utilizes what’s in the real world to make the augmented reality better. This is the first test of the virtual cabin in the place where it would be on the Farm, making this now mixed reality. Please let me know what you think.
