Remember a couple of weeks ago when I was in KY to photograph the Moonbow at Cumberland Falls? Well I finally found time to post the result. The first pic is where I stood for 2 1/2 hours waiting for it to appear only to find that I set up to far downstream in nearly total darkness. The moons elliptical orbit determines where it will appear and varies month to month. A rainbow is formed by sunlight and the moonbow is moonlight refracted in the mist of the falls. Our human eyes can't see the colors and it appears white but the long camera exposure can pick up the colors. After I moved upstream I had a window of a few minutes to get the shot through the spindles of an iron gate before it disappeared for another month. Your eyes the mist and the moonlight must all align while surrounded by the pitch black night. In a nutshell this is a very difficult phenomenon to capture.
