A fresh water Mermaid who resided in the waters of the Great Lakes. Born in the beautiful Kitch-Iti-Kipi Spring in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Over time traveled South down the sandy coast to the mouth of the Grand River. Spending much of her life upriver around the “fruit ridge” area. Attracted to the sweet smell of fresh apples, peaches and blueberries. Her favorite foods were the fruits that would fall from the trees and wash their ways into the rivers.

One day Amalthea heard the songs of other merfolk resonating through the water. She felt the urge for adventure and decided to venture off to find them. Traveling south down the Illinois River, and for a short while, swam the Mississippi.

The vast wilderness of Michigan’s upper peninsula is full of mystical sprites. One had given Mermaid Amalthea a special amulet which would allow her to take full human form and live on land whenever she wanted and for as long as she wanted. Though swimming is much faster then walking, she had to finish her trek on land in order to find the source of the beautiful songs.

One was found here in Collinsville and can be seen walking the streets or serving up a delicious cup of coffee. Another, a few towns away. There are more songs she is hearing and has decided to stay a while as she pursues finding more merfolk like herself.

Though she greatly misses the beautiful crystal clear spring, sandy beaches, and delicious tree ripened fruit, she finds solace and comfort having found more of her kind and has decided to stay and make this her new home. Bringing with her, all the love of her favorite lake to this new place. She and her new pod can often be found around some of the small lakes, ponds, and parks in the area as they work to keep their home clean and beautiful. You may even spot them in the pool at the MetroPlex as they stretch their fins during the cooler months.
