The Canon R6 is still my preferred camera for wedding photography even though it has been replaced by a newer model and there are higher end models available. The blurry wedding photo trend is probably not going anywhere. Even though it’s trending when it’s done right, it is a tool for conveying different feelings and emotions in images and it has been around for a very long time. The thing is it needs to be used with intention and skill otherwise the resulting photo will look like a mistake and the blur will be more of a distraction. The panning technique using a slow shutter speed has been widely used by motor sports photographers for decades. Wedding officiants, I love that you want to help the couple out by stepping out of the first kiss shot but you have to step all the way out of the shot or you create a more distracting element in the first kiss picture. Start leaving the space before you finish the “you may now kiss” sentence. I usually save flash for indoors and night photos but I knew this view and this shot would be happening in the middle of the day and it was important to make it happen. I borrowed a @godoxlighting AD200 flash from my 2nd photographer @msw_photos and I just got myself a pair because it worked so well! I am so glad we did not wait until later because there was a delay with dinner and the good sunset light happened during speeches and dances. I signed up for the three most well known AI editing platforms (Aftershoot, Imagen AI, Impossible Things) to see which one was the best for me. Ultimately I think Imagen AI is the best overall but it was more expensive compared to aftershoot in the way that I use it and I am getting very similar results. Aftershoot worked out about half the cost of Imagen and does everything I need it to. Impossible things was my least favorite despite it being used by some of my favorite photographers and founded by one of the best wedding photographers in the world. It was getting me further from where I wanted my edits to be and I wasn’t very good at figuring out the interface. Can clients tell the difference between good photos and great photos? … I think they can but they are not art critics so maybe they just can’t fully describe why. Natural portraits are a collaboration between couples and the photographer. We are prepared with all of the prompts but you also have to be willing to go along with it and allow the natural reactions to come out. Even if you are just laughing and thinking “this photographer is ridiculous” the result is beautiful romantic photos with authentic expressions.
