SIX YEARS AGO TODAY, I filed a business license in the name of Dream Catcher Weddings, LLC. I had no idea how this little side hustle, this "F it let's put something out there and see what happens" moment, would turn into the most challenging and unexpected journey of my life. Being a business owner has pushed me so far past my comfort zone countless times. When I started, I just wanted to figure out how others were doing it and try to imitate them to the best of my ability. I had mad imposter syndrome and just hoped to god I could bluff it and convince folks I knew what I was doing long enough, until I actually felt like I did.

Then I came to realize that fitting in and doing what the others are doing is NOT what it's about. To me, it's about finding ways I can poke holes in the boxes, smash the glass ceilings, turn a mirror on the thoughtless and wasteful ways the industry is functioning, and challenge myself and others to do DIFFERENT and BETTER.

The weddings industry is wildly wasteful. I love being the tree-hugging weirdo who shows up to weddings with my compost and recycle bins, my carload of decor that the couple borrowed from me, and my buckets to take home leftover flowers in. I love ending the wedding day with comments from the other vendors saying things like "you guys do things differently," "I've never seen a wedding planning team work so hard and do so much," and (this literally just happened again yesterday) "are you guys hiring?"

I love going to work every day knowing that I am making wedding days feel more magical, supporting my badass team of planners in doing work that is meaningful and fun, and making folks think twice about how they can care for our beloved planet on their wedding day.

I'm so lucky to be six years in to building my own queendom where I get to break all the rules and manifest whatever magic I have the vision to dream up. I love my job. I love my life. I love my team. I love my community. I'm so so thankful to all the people and alllll the universe magic that have gotten me this far ✨💜🙏 Happy 6th Bday, Dream Catcher 🎉🎉🎉
