The 2024 SCQP is coming very soon! Hello Everyone...I'm Dave WN4AFP the SCQP Team Leader and I'm going to revive the SCQP FB site. I'll be monitoring and posting news and info about the contest. We do have a new rule change for 2024. Multipliers are now on a "Once Per Mode Per Band". So you can work the same a station in the same county on 7 bands and get multiplier credit for each one. Please read the rules before the contest... This new change should stimulate activity on all the bands. 73 Dave

Well, 2017 is in the books and the early returns look very positive for this being a very good QSO party. A few bumps and some grumps about this, that and the other, but over all, the commentary has been very positive and very rewarding to the SCQP Team and all participants. I want to thank everybody who "did the job" and got South Carolina on the air. Also want to thank Tammy Livingston who worked hard the last two weeks up to the event, promoting, cajoling and in general getting the word out on the SCQP. de Tom, W1TEF

Dave Edmonds (WN4AFP) and Tom Francis (W1TEF) met with the North Carolina QSO Party Committee yesterday at the Shelby Hamfest. It was a very productive meeting. There is a synergy that is plainly evident and the two groups are cooperating on several items that will only enhance The Carolina Weekend for both QSO parties. Stay tuned for the upcoming 2017 Carolina Weekend rules and awards. Best regards, Tom, W1TEF - Awards Manager, SCQP

03/15/2016

The 2015 South Carolina QSO Party is now done - all awards have been mailed out to their recipients and that is the final step that needed to be complete - less than six months from the final log deadline - that's something to be proud of.

I want to thank all the entrants, participants and award sponsors. In particular, I want to thank the leadership and members of the Columbia Amateur Radio Club and the Swamp Fox Contest Group for their generous support during the final rules changes and for their support of the Committee's efforts and the QSO party itself. Thank you very much.

Its now on to 2017 due to the recently concluded February 2016 session. We have some time to come up with new ideas for awards which will match what we did for 2013/14/15 - we're always on the lookout for new and imaginative "outside" the box thinking so if you have an idea, please share it.

Finally, I know that Dave Edmonds, WN4AFP will do a great job keeping the SCQP on track. My role in getting it straightened out, rules changed and accepted and awards system in place is over and I can go back to being a "regular ham". I will stay as Awards Chair on the committee, but this gives me an opportunity to work the event as well - maybe even as WW4SF next year.

Very best regards,

Tom Francis, W1TEF

Worked AA-10 Camden Revolutionary Park - Camden, SC this morning with Dwayne Livingston, N4LDL. We went there to check the area out for future operations. Then we sort of decided - "Hey, as long as we're here - why not?". Using W1TEF, N4LDL and I worked 63 Qs in a hour - right up until NAQP start time on 40 meters. Had a couple of decent pileups which are always a lot of fun for an unrepentant contester like myself. Once again, spotting is the key to a successful operation. Best Q was from 6 land to 4 land to W1TEF via remote station in FL. So cool. Thanks to everybody for the Qs. Very best regards, Tom - W1TEF/4

This weekend, starting at 0000Z Saturday, 12/19/2015 the Concours d'Hiver Du Canada (Canada Winter Contest in English) begins. Runs for 24 hours. This is a great way to pick up the 13 Canadian provinces/territories for your Worked All North America award. Canadians are normally active in this one so there will be stations to work. 80 in the evening, 40 mid afternoon to mid-evening and 20 during the day. Maybe 15 depending of the propagation Gods. Rules page follow - Good luck should be decide to participate.http://wp.rac.ca/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/2015-Winter-Contest-Rules-English-French.pdf

ARRL Section Manager's report was just posted and mentioned our move to February and the all new Carolina's Weekend. I'm very pleased that Marc took time to mention us. He also got a great plug in for the SFCG - well deserved.

Stay tuned for more info on the move - the SCQP Steering Committee is finalizing details (including N3FJP software now able to figure bonus station points). We've gotten a lot of positive vibes about this move so plan to play if you can.

This is not news which is why there are correction algorithms in GPS firmware to remove the error. However, it isn't exact for a variety of reasons including signal attenuation, cloud cover, trees, etc. Unless you have access to the real corrected distance/time measurements which is military or commercial and very expensive it's always going to be anywhere from 3 yards to 500 feet off and there is no way to tell which is which and when.
