Maplewood Barn is proud to announce our fifth director of the 2025 season: the team of Mark Baumgartner & Chris Bowling who will be co-directing "William Shakespeare's Land of the Dead!"

Mark is an actor/director with over a decade of experience in the Columbia theater scene. Since 2013, he has performed in more than a dozen productions, including lead roles in The Man With the Plastic Sandwich, Stage Kiss, and God of Carnage, as well as supporting roles in August: Osage County and Arsenic and Old Lace. In 2023, he co-directed The Thanksgiving Play with his wife, DeeDee Farris. In 2024, he realized his dream by directing the stage adaptation of Stephen King's Misery. Mark and DeeDee are also the founders of Little Dance Entertainment, where they write and direct short films.

Chris Bowling has been involved in community theatre as a performer, director, builder, and writer (and just about every other job in between) since 1999. His most recent directing work was the 2022 MBCT production of "She Kills Monsters." Other past favorites include "Heathers: The Musical" (CEC 2017), "Jesus Christ Superstar" (CEC 2011) and "Plan 9! The Musical From Outer Space" (MBCT 2008). By day Chris works in the MU College of Education. Apart from theatre, he is a rabid tabletop games enthusiast and runner. He is beyond excited to be co-directing this show with his good buddy Mark. Chris would like to thank his wife, Val, for her unending support of his theatrical endeavors and for always being his audience.

Welcome back to Maplewood Barn Radio Theatre. The Maplewood Barn Radio Players present Murder is a Merry Go Round from the Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar classic radio series.
Insurance investigator Johnny Dollar is sent to a traveling carnival to investigate a string of accidents. What starts out as an insurance matter quickly turns into a murder investigation.... and the greasy midway food may not be the only thing that poses a threat to Johnny's health.

Maplewood Barn is proud to announce our fourth director of the 2025 season: the team of Amanda Atkins & Robert Klick (Team Klatkins) who will be co-directing "Something Rotten!"

Robert & Amanda are at it again! The folks that brought you Rodgers & Hammerstein's "Cinderella" in 2023 are up to "Something Rotten!"

Amanda’s first show at Maplewood was “The King & I” in 1988. She has shared the stage with her parents, spouse, and children, and loves the family feel of the Barn. Amanda served on the Board in the early 2000's and again from 2018-2023 as Vice President and Treasurer. Her favorite role at Maplewood is a toss up between playing Ariel in "The Tempest" in 2002 and watching her kids and husband take the stage decades later.

Robert has been a “Jeff”, (seems to be the only role he ever gets)…er Jack of all trades in the Columbia, MO community theater scene. Robert began as an actor in "Plan 9 from Outer Space" in 2004. From there he has performed in 17 shows from Columbia to Moberly. He has directed or Assistant Directed 4 shows and served on the board of directors for Maplewood from 2013-2019 and TRYPS board since 2019. Robert is thrilled, no, HONORED to be working with Amanda again and definitely did not write this.

Maplewood Barn is proud to announce our third director of the 2025 season: Jim Yelton who will be directing "The Shark is Broken!

Jim has wanted to be a director most of his life. He has been lucky enough to live his dream by directing shows at Maplewood Barn, CEC, and with the Jackson Theatre Guild in Jackson, TN. Recent works have included CEC’s "The Producers" and Maplewood Barn’s productions of "The Odd Couple" and "The Mousetrap." When Jim was 3 years old, his parents scarred him for life by taking him to see a movie about a giant killer shark and his life has never been the same. His wonderful wife, Sonya, and two daughters, Andrea and Jamie, have allowed him to indulge his passion for Jaws, Star Wars/Trek, and other geeky/nerdy things including local theatre.

Maplewood Barn is proud to announce our second director of the 2025 season: Kit Carter who will be directing William Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream!"

Kit is so excited to be directing A Midsummer Night’s Dream for the third time in her career! This is the 9th production Kit has directed, and the 10th Shakespeare-themed production they’ve had the privilege of being a part of. Kit is thrilled to have the chance to breathe new life into this classic comedy, bringing a modern, southern Americana folklore twist to Shakespeare’s timeless words.

Kit was most recently seen on stage as the understudy for Lizzie and Alice in Columbia Entertainment Company’s production of Lizzie the Musical. When they’re not directing or acting in a production on one of Columbia’s stages, they teach theatre and speech and debate at Jefferson Middle School here in Columbia. They also serve on the Barn’s Board of Directors as the Play Selection Committee chair! Kit would like to thank their husband Ryan, and their friends and family for their continued support, as well as the Barn for the amazing opportunity to direct this show again!
