Everyone always assumes my passion for multicultural celebrations stems from having to navigate the logistics of my own blended intercultural marriage. Now of course that does play a major roles in it, but it’s also from my genuine love for immersing myself in the unique experiences and witnessing the traditions of each couple’s heritage. But I do have to confess, I have a special love for Middle Eastern & European weddings. Of course my own heritage is an influence but in reality, theres literally never a dull moment at a Mediterranean wedding upbeat vibes, ALWAYS over the top, and not to mention the FOOD 🤤 My top 3 all time favorite Middleastern wedding traditions 1. Zafaa - A wedding procession filled with music and dance and can include elaborate costumes as well. It’s a custom with a long history in Arabic cultures and the tradition continues today around the world where performance groups are hired to lead the zaffa at weddings. 2. Dabke- A Middleastern folk dance. Dabke combines circle dance and line dancing and is widely performed at weddings and other occasions. The line forms from right to left and the leader of the dabke heads the line, alternating between facing the audience and the other dancers. 3. Sword cake cutting- The Sword Cake Cutting is a unique wedding tradition where the bride and groom cut their wedding cake with a sword, symbolizing their ability to overcome any obstacle in their marriage. 4. Money Dance- This is where guests shower the couple with money. The custom is to help establish the couple in their new life together. Or to show how much they are loved and appreciated!
