Heritage Academy swept a varsity basketball doubleheader against visiting Winona Christian School Tuesday night. The Lady Patriots cruised to a 55-19 victory despite a cold-shooting night from 3-point territory, and the Patriots coasted to a 59-22 win as three players scored in double figures.
The Lady Patriots (4-1) led 14-7 after one quarter, 25-8 at halftime, and 34-17 through three quarters. Junior guard Sophie Starks led the way with 16 points, 10 coming in the second half. Senior point guard Chloe Boyd contributed 12 points and senior guard Ellie Dawson had nine points, sinking three of Heritage's four made 3's.
Meanwhile, the Patriots were led by senior guard Whit Altmyer's 16 points, 13 coming in the first half in helping his team build a 40-17 halftime lead. Sophomore guard Xzavier Webber added 11 points and senior forward Tylan Wicks 10 for Heritage (3-0).
The Lady Patriots, who are yielding only 27 points per game, return to action Monday. Coach Moe Reed's crew will face MAIS Class 4A top-ranked Central Hinds in the Starkville Academy Thanksgiving Tournament. Tip off is set for 2 p.m.
The Patriots, who are averaging 67 points per game, are traveling to the Coast to play in the two-day Gulfport High Thanksgiving Classic. They play the homestanding Admirals at 7:30 on Monday, followed by the MRA-Hancock winner/loser on Tuesday. Coach Andrew Howell's squad already owns a victory over MHSAA Class 7A Desoto Central on the resume.

High expectations surround this year's Heritage Academy Boys Basketball team.
The Patriots showed why Saturday afternoon.
Led by senior guard Whit Altmyer's game-high 21 points, Heritage defeated MHSAA Class 7A Desoto Central 64-53 in the Southern Sports Platform Tip Off Classic staged at New Hope.
The Patriots led by as many as 14 points on a couple of different occasions in the fourth quarter before the Jaguars cut the deficit to single digits during a late game push. Desoto Central (1-1) narrowly lost at two-time reigning MHSAA Class 3A state champion Booneville earlier this week.
Heritage led 15-10 at the end of the first quarter, 35-30 at halftime and 48-38 through three quarters. Senior swingman Tylan Wicks and junior guard KJ Barnes added 13 points apiece for the Patriots, who were 18 of 24 at the free throw line and scored 19 points off turnovers thanks in large part to 10 steals.
Heritage (2-0) hosts Winona Christian Tuesday.

Heritage cruised to a 52-25 home victory over North Delta School Thursday night, improving to 3-1.
Senior forward Reagan Merchant had a game-high 12 points for the Lady Patriots, who bounced back from a setback at Oak Hill earlier in the week. Sophie Starks contributed nine points and Ellie Dawson and Chloe Boyd added eight points apiece.
Heritage led 16-0 at the end of the first quarter, 30-10 at halftime and 39-13 through three quarters. The Lady Patriots return to action next Tuesday when they host Winona Christian School.

Heritage Academy started the Andrew Howell era off with a bang, cruising to a 77-25 season-opening victory at Oak Hill Tuesday night at West Point. The Patriots placed three players in double figures, led by Whit Altmyer's 17 points. All of those came in the first half.
Jack Ketchum added 13 points and Tylan Wicks added 11 for Heritage, which led 29-5 after one quarter, 47-11 at halftime and 67-11 through three quarters. Zach Wilson drained three of the Patriots' seven made 3-pointers.
The Patriots return to action Saturday when they square off against MHSAA 7A Desoto Central at New Hope.
The Lady Patriots lost to Oak Hill 58-50 despite a game-high 19 points from freshman Jalecia McShane. The game was tied 44-44 with just under six minutes remaining before the Lady Raiders closed the game on a 14-6 run. Heritage, which also got 13 points from Chloe Boyd, slipped to 2-1 entering Thursday night's home game against North Delta School.

Thursday's Varsity Boys home opener game vs North Delta School has been canceled. The home opener game for Varsity Boys will now be against Winona Christian School next Tuesday, November 14, which is our 3rd game of the season.
